Emma Willis, the 50-year-old TV star, has revealed she has “started therapy” after years of struggling to manage her mental health. The candid revelation comes as she emerges as the frontrunner to replace Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman on Strictly Come Dancing following a fiercely competitive audition process.

Speaking to her husband Matt Willis on his On The Mend podcast, Emma described taking the “huge” step of beginning therapy and admitted she was surprised by how quickly she “felt the benefits.”

“I wasn’t surprised when I started because we’ve done it before, so I knew what to expect. It’s weird when it’s just you—I can’t blame anything on Matt,” Emma said. “What surprised me most was how quickly it works. You have to put in the work, but I felt benefits quite quickly. I mean, I’m not cured, but definite little tips helped me straight away. I’m on the mend.”
Away from the glitz of Strictly, Emma kept a low-key appearance on the streets of London, wearing a beige jacket over a white top and blue jeans, showing a relaxed side far from her TV persona.
Sources say Emma impressed during the chemistry tests and auditions, with the BBC viewing her as a “safe pair of hands” and confident she will do justice to the iconic Saturday night show. A producer who has worked with Emma praised her on-screen presence: “She has a mix of vulnerability and confidence that everyone falls in love with.”
Emma is no stranger to live TV pressure, having boosted ratings on The Voice UK and honed her skills on Big Brother and This Morning. With her reputation for professionalism and audience appeal, insiders suggest she is perfectly poised to step into the Strictly role and make it her own.
