Fatboy Slim has opened up about the “awkward” early days of his post-divorce relationship with ex-wife Zoe Ball, revealing how they eventually rebuilt a strong friendship while continuing to co-parent their children.

The former couple, who married in 1999, went through a turbulent period during their relationship, including Zoe’s admission of an affair with DJ Daniel Peppe. Despite briefly separating before reconciling three months later, they eventually divorced in 2016.
Speaking to Davina McCall on the Begin Again podcast, Fatboy Slim (real name Norman Cook) admitted that things felt “awkward” between him and Zoe in the beginning as they adjusted to life after separation while raising their children Woody and Nelly.
However, he stressed that their co-parenting relationship has since evolved into something positive — even better than when they were together romantically.
“Our triumph is to remain really good friends and parents, even though we’re not a couple anymore,” he said, adding that it took time to find the right rhythm after the breakup.
“It was a bit awkward at first, but then we got this rhythm where… we’re probably actually better than we were when we were a couple.”
He also reflected on the lifelong nature of parenting, saying: “You sign on to be parents, that’s for life. You can sign up for marriage and you can get divorced, but you can never stop being parents.”
Norman praised Zoe for helping keep him grounded during difficult moments, describing her as “really measured” and supportive throughout their journey.
The candid interview comes shortly after the pair were seen reunited at a close friend’s wedding, where their daughter Nelly acted as a bridesmaid.
Zoe shared a series of warm photos and clips from the celebration held at Parnham Park in Dorset, where she wore a cream ruffled dress with a slit, while Norman looked sharp in a grey suit.
In her caption, Zoe wrote: “Congratulations Eva & James & Willow. We love you so much. The most perfect wedding celebration for our dear magic friends.”
The reunion sparked renewed interest in their unusually close post-divorce relationship, with fans praising the pair for maintaining harmony for the sake of their family.
