Sarah Beeny, the beloved property expert, has shared a deeply emotional update after her brave battle with breast cancer. From diagnosis to recovery, the past few years have been a whirlwind for the 54-year-old, who has now found strength in helping others find love and rediscover joy.
In 2022, Sarah was diagnosed with breast cancer, and the ensuing journey led to a double mastectomy and reconstruction, followed by the removal of her ovaries and fallopian tubes in 2023. Her diagnosis was a wake-up call, but she’s now living to tell the tale, with a heart full of gratitude.
“It’s been such a ride, but I’m here, and I have a whole life to live now,” she reflects, flashing her trademark smile. Despite the hardships, Sarah is thankful that she caught the cancer in time and that her treatment was successful. “I was lucky,” she says with a quiet strength.
While Sarah’s journey has been fraught with medical battles, it hasn’t been without personal challenges. In a revealing podcast from 2024, she hinted that the cancer struggle had placed significant strain on her marriage to artist Graham Swift. She has since clarified her remarks, attributing them to a “jokey” moment that got misinterpreted.
“We had a lot of people calling to say they were sorry about our divorce,” Sarah laughs. “It’s absurd! We’re still here, and we’re fine. We’ve been through bumps, but what relationship doesn’t have them? Life has taught me that you can’t have the good times without the bad.”
Over the years, Sarah has watched her relationship with Graham evolve, with all the ups and downs that come with over three decades together. “Yes, we argue sometimes, and I’ll admit, there are days when I think, ‘Is this it?’ But we love each other. And that’s what matters,” she says, her eyes lighting up when she talks about their bond.
Reflecting on the early days of their relationship, Sarah fondly remembers how Graham would always make her laugh. “He’s good-looking, and he makes me laugh – what more could I ask for?” she says, grinning. “Life may get in the way, but we try to keep the spark alive.”
But Sarah isn’t just focusing on her family and health—she’s also turning her attention to her pioneering dating website, MySingleFriend, which she’s relaunching with a fresh, video-first approach. The platform, which she once started as a way to help friends meet, has since become a hub for countless relationships. “It’s unfinished business for me,” she admits. “I’ve always been a connector, and I love seeing people find love.”
A poignant story comes to mind when she talks about her son Billy’s dating experience. “He went on a date and knew within 10 seconds it wasn’t right,” she recalls with a smile. “Imagine how much easier it would’ve been if he could’ve watched a video of her beforehand. You could feel her vibe right away.”
As a mother of four, Sarah’s life is anything but dull. Her children—Billy, 21, Charlie, 20, Rafferty, 17, and Laurie, 16—are keeping her on her toes, and their indie band, The Entitled Sons, is thriving. “They just headlined at Shepherd’s Bush Empire, which was huge. I’m so proud of them,” Sarah says, beaming with pride. “They’re juggling GCSEs, A-Levels, and band life, and it’s chaotic, but it’s an exciting time for them.”
When it comes to her own health, Sarah feels fortunate to be in the clear. “Cancer feels like a lifetime ago now,” she says, relieved that she no longer has to endure regular hospital visits. “It’s such a relief to be able to say that.”
However, Sarah acknowledges that life isn’t always sunshine and rainbows. “I have good days and bad days,” she confides. “As I’ve gotten older, I’ve noticed that the clouds come, but I don’t dwell in them for long. I know how important it is to talk about how you feel. It’s okay to have the down days, but it’s just as important to embrace the good ones.”
Sarah’s move to the countryside has also brought her peace, both mentally and physically. “Walking the dogs and gardening helps me so much. It calms me,” she says, reflecting on how the fresh air and slower pace have improved her mental health.
But despite everything, Sarah’s drive for achievement remains unrelenting. “I’m endlessly dissatisfied,” she laughs, admitting that she can never seem to sit still. “But that’s me—I like a challenge. I don’t stop.”
As Sarah embraces a new chapter, she has plenty to look forward to. Whether it’s helping others find love through MySingleFriend or continuing her passion for property development, one thing is clear: Sarah Beeny is living life to the fullest.
