Concerns are mounting for Patrick Kielty’s emotional state if estranged wife Cat Deeley decides to return to the United States with their two young children, insiders have claimed.
The couple stunned fans earlier this week when they confirmed the end of their 13-year marriage — a revelation that has left both parties reeling. In Dundrum, County Down, Patrick’s hometown, residents voiced their worry for the 54-year-old TV star, who married Cat in a lavish ceremony in Rome back in September 2012.
Friends close to the comedian, who shares two children with the former SMTV Live host, fear that he would be “heartbroken” if she chose to go back to America, where they had lived for more than 14 years.
One insider told reporters: “Everyone is worried about Paddy. The fear is that Cat will return to America with the little ones — and that would leave him in a very dark place.”
The revelation comes alongside reports of another celebrity break-up — Helen Skelton and Gethin Jones — after he allegedly joined a notorious dating app during a lads’ holiday.
Cat, 48, took over hosting duties on ITV’s This Morning last year alongside Ben Shephard, stepping in after the high-profile departures of Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby. But according to The Mirror, she has found the move back to the UK more challenging than expected since splitting from Patrick.
There are growing whispers that she could step away from This Morning entirely and return to the US. One television source told Mail Online: “Cat’s time on This Morning hasn’t been a failure, but it’s not been a roaring success either. The scrutiny is relentless, and unlike most British presenters, she has plenty of lucrative offers waiting for her in the States. All of this family drama could be the final push for her to leave.”
During their years in Los Angeles, Cat fronted the hit US reality show So You Think You Can Dance. Upon returning to the UK, she joined This Morning, which is now among several ITV daytime programmes facing cost-cutting measures. The broadcaster is planning a major shake-up — slashing Lorraine by 30 minutes and dropping it completely during school holidays from January.
It’s also believed This Morning will relocate from its current White City studio in west London to a smaller, more cost-effective venue in central London.
Adding to the strain, Cat has been open about the difficulty of adjusting to 5am starts for her four-day-a-week presenting schedule — a routine she admits often led to her and Patrick sleeping in separate beds most nights.
