Gemma Atkinson Makes Surprise Marriage Confession After Opening Up About Life With Gorka Márquez

After years of engagement, two children, and one of television’s most loved relationships, Gemma Atkinson has revealed that walking down the aisle may never happen.

The former Strictly Come Dancing star made the candid admission during a recent episode of the couple’s podcast, Lost in Translation, where she and fiancé Gorka Márquez spoke openly about marriage, family life, and the reality of long-term relationships.

“No Chance”

When a listener asked whether wedding bells were finally on the horizon, Gemma’s answer left Gorka laughing—and fans stunned.

“I ain’t getting married to him. No chance,” she joked.

Rather than disagreeing, Gorka admitted he isn’t particularly interested in getting married either.

“I don’t think I want to get married,” he said.

The couple explained that, for them, their commitment to each other doesn’t depend on a marriage certificate.

“We’re fine like this,” Gorka said. “We have two children. Marriage is just a document for legal purposes.”

He added that he has seen plenty of couples spend decades together before marrying, only for the relationship to end shortly afterward.

Why Gemma Hasn’t Completely Ruled It Out

Despite her joking response, Gemma admitted there is one practical reason she may eventually reconsider.

She explained that being married could make certain legal matters—particularly those involving their children—much simpler in the future.

The couple share daughter Mia and son Thiago, and Gemma acknowledged that family security is more important than a wedding celebration.

Even so, she made it clear that saying “I do” is certainly not at the top of their priority list.

Honest About Relationship Challenges

The discussion came shortly after Gemma spoke candidly about one of the everyday disagreements she and Gorka experienced after he returned home from a week away working in New York.

Recalling the moment, Gemma said Gorka immediately began noticing small changes around the house.

According to her, he jokingly questioned why one of his shelves had been rearranged after being away for only a week.

Gemma later realised their children had simply been playing and moving things around the house.

She admitted she became momentarily frustrated before reminding herself it was only a minor misunderstanding—a glimpse into the ordinary ups and downs that every family experiences.

Rather than presenting themselves as a perfect couple, the pair have often chosen to share the realities of balancing careers, parenting, and life together.

A New Chapter After Strictly

The conversation also comes during a significant period of change for Gorka.

Earlier this year, the professional dancer confirmed that he was permanently leaving Strictly Come Dancing after ten years on the BBC series.

In an emotional statement, Gorka thanked the show for changing his life.

He said Strictly had given him far more than a career—it introduced him to Gemma, helped him build a family, and created lifelong friendships.

Although he has stepped away from competing as a professional dancer, Gorka said he remains excited about future projects, including continuing to be involved with the wider Strictly family through the live tour and other opportunities.

Choosing Family Over Formalities

While many celebrity couples dream of lavish weddings, Gemma and Gorka appear perfectly happy doing things their own way.

For them, raising their two children and supporting each other’s careers matters far more than planning a ceremony.

Their honest conversation offered fans a refreshing reminder that every relationship follows its own path—and that lasting commitment isn’t always measured by a wedding day.
