Giovanna Fletcher has shared a quietly devastating revelation, opening up for the first time about suffering a miscarriage last year following a “surprise” pregnancy at the age of 40.
The I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! winner, who shares three sons — Buzz, Buddy and Max — with husband Tom Fletcher, spoke candidly about the loss during a milestone episode of her podcast, Happy Mum Happy Baby.
To mark the show’s 300th episode, Giovanna found herself on the other side of the microphone, interviewed by close friend Emma Willis. It was during that deeply personal conversation that she revealed she had experienced another miscarriage — something she had never previously shared publicly.
“It was a surprise pregnancy”
“I had another miscarriage last year,” Giovanna said softly. “It was a chemical pregnancy — and it was a surprise pregnancy.”
While she explained that her emotional response differed from earlier losses, the pain, she admitted, was still very real.
“I haven’t talked about it publicly,” she said. “But don’t get me wrong — it was really hard.”
Fighting back tears, Giovanna reflected on how time and experience have reshaped her understanding of pregnancy loss — particularly the way it is spoken about.
Challenging the ‘12-week rule’
Giovanna spoke candidly about why she no longer agrees with the long-held convention of waiting 12 weeks before sharing pregnancy news.
“You need the support of the people around you,” she said. “You should allow yourself to feel other people’s joy — but also their sadness if there is a loss.”
She explained that silence can leave women feeling isolated at the exact moment they need comfort and connection most.
Rethinking life after loss
The miscarriage also prompted Giovanna to reassess how she wants to live and work moving forward.
“When the pregnancy ended, I suddenly thought: I need to change how I do things in 2026,” she explained. “I want to enjoy the things I’m doing, rather than feeling like I’m just getting through them. These are things I love — so let’s not just survive life, let’s enjoy it.”
Pregnancy at 40 felt different
Giovanna also reflected on how being pregnant at 40 felt unlike her earlier experiences.
“It did feel very different,” she said. “I’ve got three incredible kids — and four is a lot of kids.”
While she acknowledged that another baby would have been a joy, she said she feels at peace with where her family is now.
“If it had worked out, it would have been amazing,” she said. “But I’m also very comfortable with where we are. This loss wasn’t surrounded by desperation or fear that it might never happen — and that made it a very different thing to process.”
A pain she has known before
This was not Giovanna’s first experience of miscarriage. She has previously spoken about losing a pregnancy before welcoming her sons — a loss that left her feeling as though her body had “failed” her.
“It’s a horrible thing that happens to so many people,” she has said. “All you really want in that moment is a hug. It’s often your first experience of motherhood — and it’s heartbreaking.”
Through her honesty, Giovanna has once again opened up a vital conversation about miscarriage, grief and the many different ways women process loss — reminding others that there is no single way to heal, only the courage to keep moving forward. 💔
