Bradley Walsh could be preparing for a major return to acting — and if he gets his way, it may happen in one of ITV’s most intriguing new murder mysteries.

The much-loved presenter and actor, best known to millions as the face of The Chase, has publicly thrown his hat into the ring for a role in Death at the White Hart, the upcoming ITV adaptation from Broadchurch creator Chris Chibnall.

And rather than quietly waiting for the phone to ring, Bradley decided to make his case directly to the man behind the series.

During a book event at Waterstones Piccadilly in London on Monday night, the 66-year-old jokingly asked his longtime friend and former collaborator Chibnall whether there might be room for him in the Dorset-set whodunnit.

Bradley even had a couple of characters in mind.

“Is there any chance of Bradley Walsh as Mel?” he asked.

“I thought he was a great character. I know guys like him.”

But Bradley wasn’t finished.

In typically playful fashion, he suggested another possibility — although it would require a rather dramatic rewrite.

“Or I was thinking young Harry could be turned into a 66-year-old quiz show host of some description who becomes a cop in his spare time.”

The suggestion drew attention not only because of Bradley’s trademark humour, but because a role in the drama could mark an exciting return to the kind of acting career that made him a familiar face on British television long before The Chase became a daytime phenomenon.

And Chibnall didn’t exactly close the door.

“I’ll have a good think about it,” the acclaimed writer replied.

For fans of Bradley, that response may be enough to spark some serious speculation.

A New Murder Mystery With Broadchurch DNA

Death at the White Hart is based on Chris Chibnall’s murder mystery novel of the same name, published in 2025.

Set against the atmospheric backdrop of Dorset, the story follows DCI Nicola Bridge, who returns to the area after spending years away.

ITV clearly saw major potential in the story.

The broadcaster commissioned a television adaptation even before Chibnall’s novel officially reached bookshelves, suggesting considerable confidence in its potential as a new crime drama.

The project is still reportedly in its early stages, meaning casting details remain one of the biggest unanswered questions.

Bradley and Chris Chibnall Go Way Back

If Bradley does secure a role, it certainly wouldn’t be the first time he and Chibnall have worked together.

Graham quickly became a fan favourite thanks to his warmth, humour and emotional depth.

But their working relationship goes back even further.

Bradley starred as DS Ronnie Brooks in Law & Order: UK, the British adaptation of the hugely successful American crime franchise.

His performance as the experienced detective became one of the defining roles of the series, demonstrating a much more serious side to the entertainer audiences often associate with comedy and quiz shows.

Bradley also served as an executive producer on the drama alongside Chibnall.
