There was a time when Harry Redknapp feared he might lose the love of his life.
The former football manager has opened up about one of the most frightening moments his family has ever faced, revealing that his wife, Sandra Redknapp, came dangerously close to dying after developing sepsis following a kidney infection.
Now, years after the terrifying emergency, Harry has shared a reassuring update that fans will be relieved to hear.
“She’s Doing Really Well”
Speaking candidly during a recent appearance, Harry revealed that Sandra has made a strong recovery and is now enjoying life again.
“All good, touch wood,” he said. “We’re all okay. She’s keeping busy.”
The update comes after an ordeal that forever changed the couple’s outlook on health and prompted Harry to support campaigns raising awareness about sepsis.
A Medical Emergency That Changed Everything
The frightening incident happened in 2018 while Harry was away working in London.
Sandra had been feeling increasingly unwell, but neither she nor her family realized how serious her condition had become. As her health rapidly deteriorated, relatives rushed her to hospital, where doctors discovered she had developed sepsis—a potentially life-threatening reaction to an infection.
Looking back, Harry admitted they had no idea how dangerous the illness was.
“We didn’t know what she had,” he recalled. “She became very ill, and thankfully my family got her to hospital in time.”
He believes that quick decision may have saved her life.
“If she hadn’t gone into hospital that night, it could have been too late. That’s how dangerous it is.”
“It’s a Scary Illness”
Harry has since become passionate about educating people about sepsis, explaining that he had barely heard of the condition before Sandra became ill.
“It’s a scary illness,” he said. “More people die from sepsis than several major cancers combined, yet so many people don’t know enough about it.”
According to the NHS, sepsis can develop rapidly and requires immediate medical treatment. Early recognition and prompt hospital care are critical, as the condition can quickly lead to organ failure if left untreated.
Harry hopes sharing his family’s experience will encourage others not to ignore warning signs.
Harry Also Opens Up About His Own Health
While speaking about Sandra’s recovery, Harry also shared an update on his own wellbeing after recently being diagnosed with hearing loss.
The 79-year-old admitted he often forgets to wear his hearing aids and confessed he didn’t realize how much his hearing had deteriorated until he underwent a routine hearing test.
“I didn’t even think I had a problem,” he said.
He has previously revealed that his hearing difficulties had begun affecting everyday life, including while driving, making treatment an important step.
Nearly Six Decades Together
Harry and Sandra have been married for almost 60 years and remain one of Britain’s most admired couples.
After surviving one of the most difficult chapters of their lives, Harry says they’re simply grateful to be enjoying everyday moments together once again.
For the Redknapps, Sandra’s recovery is more than just good news—it’s a reminder of how quickly life can change, and how vital it is to seek medical help when something doesn’t feel right.
