Hoda Kotb is back on the TODAY show, and her emotional return has fans captivated. After stepping away from the morning show in January 2025, Kotb has come back alongside her longtime co-host, Savannah Guthrie, this time filling in for Craig Melvin, who is on a family spring break.
Hoda, 61, made a special appearance in February 2026 to co-anchor with Craig in Savannah’s absence, but now she’s back to co-host with Savannah for the week. The reunion was full of emotional moments, as Hoda fondly reflects on her bond with Savannah.
Hoda was visibly emotional during their reunion. “It’s been fun holding her hand,” she said to People, talking about being back beside Savannah. “I mean, that’s been my favorite part.” As she choked up, Hoda added, “Just sitting next to her. That’s it. It’s been really beautiful, and I feel privileged to be able to sit there for a little while.”
Savannah, who had been dealing with the emotional toll of her mother Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance, had kind words for her friend and co-anchor, calling Hoda’s presence a huge support. However, Hoda humbly replied, “I don’t feel that. I feel like I get to be in the seat to watch what strength looks like. There’s nobody like her.”
The pair greeted each other warmly on the air, with Savannah saying, “So glad to have you here, Hoda,” to which Hoda responded, “So glad to sit next to you in this chair again. Yes, it’s good, it’s like the old times.”
Hoda’s return comes at a pivotal moment for Savannah, who has been dealing with an incredibly difficult time as she processes her mother’s apparent kidnapping. The two shared an emotional sit-down last month, where Savannah broke down in tears, saying, “I’m so sorry if it is me, I’m so sorry,” as she reflected on the ongoing tragedy.
Hoda has remained a pillar of support for Savannah, especially during her interview, where Savannah showed incredible strength despite the anguish she’s been facing. Hoda’s admiration for Savannah’s resilience and grace in the midst of such a painful situation has left viewers deeply moved.
“I was, sort of, marveling,” Hoda said, reflecting on how Savannah handled the interview with such poise despite the gut-wrenching circumstances.
Hoda’s emotional return to TODAY has captured the hearts of fans everywhere, and her genuine love and admiration for her co-host continue to shine through on screen.
