Anne Hegerty has shared an honest health update after losing two stone, revealing that a recent doctor’s appointment came with both a warning — and a suggestion she has chosen not to follow.
The 67-year-old, best known to viewers as The Governess on The Chase, returns to screens tonight on Beat the Chasers. But away from the studio, Anne says her health is now under closer scrutiny than ever.
A medical warning — and a line she won’t cross
Anne revealed that she has been told she is pre-diabetic, a condition that raises the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. As part of that conversation, her doctor suggested she consider weight-loss injections as a preventative step.
“My doctor mentioned it and said I should think about it,” Anne explained. “But I’m only thinking about it. I think I’m okay — though I’ll bear it in mind.”
She was quick to stress that the recommendation had nothing to do with appearance and was made purely from a medical standpoint.
“I’m not doing anything deliberately”
What surprised Anne most was the weight loss itself. She insists it wasn’t planned and wasn’t driven by dieting.
“I’m not doing anything deliberately,” she said. “I just thought I should get more active. I don’t walk much — and I really should.”
Rather than focusing on the scales, Anne says she is now paying closer attention to how her body feels day to day.
“I also need to do more stretches,” she admitted. “I’ve got no core strength, and that probably isn’t ideal.”
Lessons learned the hard way
Anne previously lost weight during her appearance on I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! in 2018, shedding around a stone in the jungle. Doctors later warned her that such weight loss was unlikely to last — advice that proved accurate.
“Everyone always puts it straight back on,” she recalled.
This time, however, the change feels different: slower, steadier, and rooted in everyday movement rather than extreme circumstances.
Still sharp — and still standing
Despite the health concerns, Anne remains as quick-witted and commanding as ever behind the lectern. Viewers can see her back in action tonight on Beat the Chasers at 9pm on ITV1 — a reminder that while she’s listening carefully to her body, she has no intention of stepping back just yet.
Measured, practical and refreshingly honest, Anne Hegerty is navigating health changes the same way she tackles quiz questions: calmly, thoughtfully, and entirely on her own terms. 💙
