Jessie J has confirmed the end of her five-year relationship with Chanan Safir Colman, revealing that the couple quietly separated “some time ago” after building a life together and welcoming their beloved son, Sky.
The announcement marks a deeply personal turning point for the 38-year-old singer, particularly after Chanan stood beside her through one of the most difficult periods of her life — her battle with breast cancer.
What makes the news even more poignant is that Jessie had previously spoken with warmth and certainty about their future together, saying that although marriage was never something she felt pressured to pursue, having a child together already made their bond feel permanent.
“We have a child. I feel like that is the most locked in that we can feel with each other,” she said in 2025.
Now, little more than a year later, their romantic relationship has come to an end.
‘It has been a sad and difficult situation’

Jessie chose to address the separation publicly after keeping the change in their relationship private for some time.
Alongside a family photograph of herself, Chanan and their three-year-old son Sky, she explained that the decision had not been easy.
“Chanan and I decided to end our romantic relationship some time ago,” she wrote.
“It has been a sad and difficult situation, but we have been focused on navigating the change privately and positively for a healthy and happy co-parenting environment for our son, and ourselves.”
Her words made one thing particularly clear: while their relationship as a couple has ended, their commitment to raising their son together has not.
Jessie explained that she wanted to share the truth herself before speculation surrounding their relationship could begin to grow.
For a woman whose private life has often attracted public attention, the statement appeared to be an attempt to draw a clear boundary between what has ended and what remains.
The romance is over.
The family bond, however, continues in a different form.
“We will always continue supporting each other with love, respect and care as friends and most importantly being Sky’s Mum and Dad,” Jessie continued.
She also warned fans not to assume the pair have reunited if they are seen spending time together or appearing on one another’s social media accounts.
“So if you see us out and about together as a family, or posting each other on socials every now and again. That’s exactly what we are doing.
“Raising and loving Sky together, supported with a positive friendship.”
A love story that began in 2021
Jessie and Chanan, a Danish-Israeli former professional basketball player, began dating in 2021.
Their relationship soon became one of the most significant chapters of Jessie’s personal life.
In May 2023, they welcomed their son Sky, transforming their relationship and giving Jessie something she had long dreamed of — motherhood.
Over the years, Jessie frequently spoke about the importance of family, while Chanan publicly expressed his admiration for her as both a partner and mother.
In a particularly touching tribute in March 2025, he described watching Jessie become a mother as “the single most poetic thing” he had ever witnessed.
He praised the way she nurtured and loved their son, thanking her for everything she brought into their family.
At the time, their relationship appeared deeply rooted in mutual admiration and their shared devotion to Sky.
Jessie once imagined Sky watching them marry
Only last year, Jessie spoke openly about the possibility of marrying Chanan.
But unlike many couples who view marriage as the ultimate symbol of commitment, Jessie admitted she had never felt particularly attached to the idea of a traditional wedding.
She described marriage as feeling “quite contractual” and said she preferred the idea of a celebration of love surrounded by family and friends.
“We talk about it all the time, and we laugh about it all the time, and I’m sure we will, but we’re not in any rush,” she said at the time.
“I know he loves me. He knows I love him. We’re good.”
Jessie even imagined waiting until Sky was old enough to understand what was happening so he could witness his parents celebrating their love.
“I would love to get married when Sky’s old enough to know what’s happening so that he can be really a part of it and enjoy that moment of seeing Mummy and Daddy come together in our love,” she said.
Those words now carry a very different emotional weight.
The wedding she once imagined with their son beside them will not happen in the way she had envisioned.
Instead, Jessie and Chanan are beginning a different chapter — learning how to remain a family for Sky without remaining romantic partners.
He stood beside her during one of the hardest years of her life
The timing of the split is especially poignant because Chanan had been a visible source of support during Jessie’s breast cancer journey.
Jessie publicly revealed her diagnosis in 2025 before undergoing surgery and further treatment.
Throughout that frightening period, Chanan remained close by her side.
In emotional glimpses shared from her hospital experience, he could be seen supporting and comforting her as she prepared for surgery.
Then, in May 2026, Jessie finally received the news she had desperately hoped for.
She was cancer-free.
“Results are in and I am cancer-free!” she announced emotionally.
“I sobbed for hours and then exhaled for the first time in a year.”
After a year dominated by fear, treatment and uncertainty, the news represented an extraordinary moment of relief.
Yet only months later, Jessie is now publicly acknowledging another major change in her life.
While she has not disclosed exactly when she and Chanan separated or what led to the decision, her statement suggests the pair deliberately chose to process the breakup away from public scrutiny before announcing it.
From partners to co-parents
Perhaps the most striking part of Jessie’s announcement is the absence of bitterness.
There are no public accusations and no attempt to turn the separation into a dramatic war of words.
Instead, both appear focused on preserving something they clearly consider more important than their romantic relationship: the emotional wellbeing of their son.
Their story may no longer be heading toward the wedding Jessie once imagined, but they remain permanently connected through Sky.
For Jessie, the past year has already brought extraordinary emotional extremes — from confronting cancer and undergoing treatment to celebrating the life-changing news that she was cancer-free.
Now comes another transition.
Five years after finding love with Chanan, and three years after becoming parents together, they are moving forward separately as partners but together as parents.
Jessie’s own words perhaps capture the reality of this new chapter best: they will continue “raising and loving Sky together.”
Their romantic story may have ended quietly some time ago.
But the family they created together remains — simply taking on a new shape.
