For months, fans admired Jesy Nelson and Zion Foster for standing side by side through what appeared to be the toughest chapter of their lives. Together, they welcomed twin daughters Ocean Jade and Story Monroe after a high-risk pregnancy filled with fear, hope and unimaginable uncertainty.
But behind the scenes, the emotional weight of their daughters’ devastating diagnosis was quietly placing enormous strain on their relationship.
Now, in an emotional new documentary, Jesy has spoken openly for the first time about why their engagement came to an end—and why she believes the heartbreak was almost impossible to avoid.
A Love Tested Beyond Anything They Could Have Imagined
Jesy and Zion’s relationship began in 2022 after years of friendship.
By early 2025, the couple shared joyful news that they were expecting identical twin girls. But what should have been one of the happiest periods of their lives quickly became a relentless medical battle.
Doctors diagnosed the pregnancy with Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS), a rare complication affecting identical twins who share a placenta. Jesy underwent emergency fetal surgery before spending months under close medical supervision.
When Ocean Jade and Story Monroe were born prematurely, another devastating challenge followed.
The twins were diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 1, the most severe form of the rare genetic condition, bringing uncertainty about their future mobility, breathing and overall health.
The diagnosis transformed every part of their lives almost overnight.
“It Tore Us Apart”
Speaking with heartbreaking honesty in Jesy Nelson: Life Changing, Jesy admitted the pressure eventually overwhelmed their relationship.
Rather than blaming one another, she explained that the trauma simply affected them in different ways.
“It’s a very traumatic thing that we’ve both been through.”
She continued by acknowledging that relationship breakdowns are sadly common when couples face extraordinary medical challenges.
“You’ll either become a team or it’ll tear you apart—and unfortunately, that’s what it’s done to me and Zion.”
Despite ending their romantic relationship, Jesy made it clear there is no bitterness between them.
Instead, every decision now revolves around one priority—their daughters.
“We still get on. There’s no bad feeling.”
Choosing Peace for Their Children
Jesy explained that living together had become emotionally exhausting as both parents tried to process grief in completely different ways.
She revealed they frequently clashed while attempting to navigate the overwhelming reality of raising two seriously ill babies.
Eventually, she made the difficult decision that separating would create a healthier environment for everyone involved.
“We’re both dealing with this situation completely differently.”
“I decided we’d be better off apart.”
Although becoming a single parent was never part of the future she imagined, Jesy said she wants to give Ocean and Story the happiest, most positive home possible.
She admitted life now largely revolves around herself, her mother and the twins.
Zion Foster’s Emotional Confession
The documentary also offers an unusually honest look at Zion’s own struggle.
The 26-year-old admitted he felt completely overwhelmed after learning about the twins’ condition.
Rather than hiding his emotions, he acknowledged how unprepared he felt for the immense responsibility suddenly placed upon him.
“I’m not equipped to deal with this.”
“I’m out of my depth emotionally, physically and mentally.”
“Right now, I’m surviving.”
He also recognised he needed professional support to help cope with the emotional impact.
His words reflect a reality many parents experience when facing life-changing medical diagnoses—feelings of helplessness, fear and uncertainty.
Heartbreak No Parent Expects
One of the documentary’s most emotional moments comes as Jesy reflects on watching Zion struggle beside her.
She admits she could almost see the weight of everything crashing down on him.
At the same time, she was trying to process her own fears about what the future might hold for Ocean and Story.
Earlier in the series, Jesy breaks down while admitting she never imagined facing another life-altering challenge after previous struggles in both her career and personal life.
She describes feeling as though her heart will never fully recover from hearing the diagnosis.
Putting Their Daughters First
Although the couple are no longer together, one thing remains unchanged.
Both Jesy and Zion continue to focus entirely on Ocean Jade and Story Monroe.
Their engagement may have ended, but their commitment to raising their daughters has not.
Those close to the former couple say they remain on good terms and are working together as co-parents, determined to provide the love, stability and support their girls need.
For Jesy, the future may look very different from the one she once imagined.
Yet through every difficult decision, every hospital visit and every emotional setback, her message remains remarkably clear:
No matter what happened between her and Zion, Ocean Jade and Story Monroe will always come first.
