Jesy Nelson has reached another heart-wrenching milestone with her 11-month-old twin daughters, Ocean and Story. In an emotional Instagram post on Tuesday, the 34-year-old singer shared a special moment: the twins trying out their new specialised feeding chairs for the very first time.
The milestone comes months after the heartbreaking diagnosis of Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 1 for her precious daughters, a rare and devastating condition that causes muscle weakness and loss. Jesyâs followers were touched as she posted a sweet video showing Ocean attempting to eat some fruit purĂ©e, while Story enjoyed her first taste. âExcuse me, youâre supposed to eat it, not spit it out,â Jesy laughed as Ocean playfully rejected the food.
The emotional journey has been overwhelming for Jesy, who admitted that the arrival of the feeding chairs in February brought tears to her eyes. She reflected: âIt just made me feel so sad as itâs just another reminder of another obstacle we have to tackle.â
Since her daughters’ diagnosis, Jesy has passionately campaigned for the NHS to implement newborn screening for SMA, a fight that is close to her heart. While the UKâs National Screening Committee previously rejected the idea of including SMA testing in newborn checks, there is now a glimmer of hope. In a major win, Wes Streeting announced that from October 2026, over 400,000 babies will be screened for SMA, marking an important step forward in the fight for early diagnosis.
However, Jesy shared a bittersweet reality with her fans: âItâs a postcode lottery for your baby, which shouldnât be the case. If you live in certain areas, your baby will be tested for SMA. If not, youâre out of luck.â
Despite this setback, Jesyâs determination is unshakeable. âAll babiesâ lives matter,â she declared, promising to continue pushing for a nationwide screening program. Her efforts, combined with the support of her fans, have led to an incredible milestone: the 100,000-signature petition for SMA testing will now be debated in Parliament.
Jesy took a moment to express her gratitude: âThank you so much for all your love and support. This journey is far from over, but together, we are making a real difference.â
Every step of Jesyâs journey is a testament to her strength, love for her daughters, and unwavering commitment to creating a brighter future for children battling SMA.
The fight isnât over yet, but thanks to her tireless campaigning and the incredible support from her fans, Jesy is one step closer to ensuring that no parent has to go through what she has. đȘđ¶ #SMA #JesyNelson #SMAAwareness #TwinLove
