Johnny Ball Opens Up About His Prostate Cancer Battle: ‘I Want to Spend My Last Days with a Smile’ 💔

Johnny Ball, the beloved TV presenter and father of Zoe Ball, has spoken candidly about his prostate cancer battle, admitting, “I don’t have long left” while reflecting on his life’s challenges.

The 87-year-old TV personality, who was diagnosed with prostate cancer in August 2022, shared that after undergoing radiation treatment, he is now “doing fine.” Despite facing significant hardships in recent years, including the cancer diagnosis, Johnny remains upbeat and content, focusing on what he has left in life.

He told The Mirror: “I’ve been kicked in the teeth in every possible way by life and by situations and by people. But I still cannot help but smile. I have my wife, my dog, my life. I’m very happy with my life, and I’m happy that I’m still fit at 87.”

Johnny admitted that, despite his health struggles, he feels blessed to still be alive. “By rights, I don’t have long left, I want to spend it with a smile on my face,” he added.

The iconic children’s TV presenter, known for hosting Play School and Think of a Number, also reflected on the emotional toll his diagnosis took on him and his family. He and his wife Dianne even discussed whether he might be nearing the end of his life. However, after doctors reassured him and provided effective treatment, Johnny feels fortunate to have had more time.

Johnny’s journey to recovery included daily radiation treatments that started in September 2022. He said that his recovery felt like a “wonderful relief” and that it has given him “more years” to enjoy life with his loved ones.

In addition to his cancer battle, Johnny has made it a priority to stay in shape by following a simple seven-minute workout routine and maintaining a healthy diet. His daily routine includes stretching, lifting dumbbells, and eating healthy meals like cereal with prunes for breakfast. He also jokingly admits to enjoying “two pints” of beer in the evening.

Johnny’s resilience is clear, as he continues to live life to the fullest and even penned a new memoir titled Stories That Must Be Told!, set for release on March 28.

Johnny, a father of three, has been married to his second wife Dianne, a former dance teacher, for over 50 years, and they share two sons. He is also a proud grandfather to six grandchildren, including his daughter Zoe’s son, Woody, 24.

Zoe’s mother, Julia, tragically passed away from pancreatic cancer in April 2024, adding another layer of loss to Johnny’s reflections on life.
