After months of quietly growing closer, Kate Garraway and her new partner Liam Halligan have taken a major step in their relationship—jetting off to Italy together for their first romantic trip abroad.
The Good Morning Britain presenter, 59, joined the respected economic journalist, 57, on what insiders describe as a relaxed European getaway, combining Liam’s work commitments with some much-needed time together.
Their First Holiday as a Couple
According to sources close to the couple, Liam invited Kate to accompany him on a trip to Italy, and she was delighted to accept.
“Liam was travelling to Italy and asked Kate to join him. She was happy to oblige,” an insider revealed.
Although the visit is expected to be low-key, the pair are reportedly looking forward to enjoying each other’s company, soaking up the Italian atmosphere, and indulging in the country’s famous cuisine.
The trip marks another milestone for the couple, who have been quietly dating for around three months.
A Romance That Grew Out of Friendship
Kate and Liam first sparked romance rumors after they were photographed looking affectionate during a charity cycling event in London earlier this year.
Liam had been a longtime friend of Kate’s late husband, Derek Draper, whose death in January 2024 came after an almost four-year battle with complications from COVID-19.
Their friendship gradually developed into something more, with both choosing to keep their relationship largely out of the public eye.
Speaking about their romance at the TRIC Awards last month, Kate smiled as she admitted:
“It’s early days, but it has been a great year.”
Meanwhile, Liam also acknowledged their growing relationship in April, saying:
“I’ve known Kate for years and we’ve recently become close.”
He added that they share a strong connection built on laughter and companionship.
“We laugh a lot and really enjoy each other’s company. This may or may not turn into something long-term, but there is a definite spark between us and we’re both excited to see what happens.”
