Katie Piper has made a rare, candid admission about married life, revealing that love alone isn’t enough to keep a relationship going strong. The Celebrity Antiques Road Trip star, 41, reflected on a decade of marriage to carpenter Richard Sutton, sharing the ups and downs of keeping a long-term partnership alive.
“I think that marriage is a discipline,” Katie told OK! Magazine. “Love is amazing, but it’s not enough. Marriage is a choice and a commitment that you have to keep showing up for.”
Katie and Richard met through friends in 2013, marrying two years later. They are parents to two daughters, Belle, 11, and Penelope, eight, and marked their 10-year wedding anniversary last year with a sweet Instagram tribute, including snaps of matching robes and their anniversary cake. Katie captioned the post: “10 years married – and he still makes me laugh. Love you, always.”
The TV presenter also reflected on how motherhood shifted her focus to her own mental and physical well-being. “I’ve always been a massive advocate for accountability,” she said. “It’s treating your mental and physical health like a job. If you don’t manage life in that way, life starts to manage you.”
Her commitment to health has had surprising results – Katie revealed she was recently told her biological age is just 22.
Katie also touched on family planning, explaining that the couple once considered a third child, but medical concerns following her 2008 acid attack injuries and eye surgery changed their plans. Instead, the family recently welcomed a rescue puppy, Sugar, bringing joy to their household.
Despite the challenges, Katie insists that open communication, shared values, and a little discipline are the secret ingredients to sustaining love over a decade.
