KIT’S CHOICE REVEALED: SARAH OR HIS POLICE CAREER? THE ANSWER COULD DESTROY THEM!

Coronation Street star Jacob Roberts has shared details about the unwanted plight that is awaiting his character, Kit Green. In next week’s scenes, the police officer will be put in a difficult position as his partner Sarah Platt is arrested.

Viewers of the ITV soap have known for a while that Sarah was responsible for the murder of Theo Silverton, with Gary Windass helping her cover up the crime. She eventually told Kit the truth, and he also tried to protect her.

The revelation was even more startling as it came just when Kit proposed to Sarah, with Roberts sharing: “He was incredibly shocked, mostly because he’s just been lied to for all this time.

“I think Kit always suspected that she and Gary had something to do with it, and he was actively defending her based on that suspicion. But he never expected it to actually be her who did it. He’s just reeling from the fact that it was her all along.”

Attention soon turned to protecting his partner, despite his conflict of interest. But as an enforcer of the law, Roberts explained that there would be a limit as to how much he would help Sarah.

“He will protect her as much as he can, but Kit is ultimately going to protect himself first,” said the actor, who joined the soap in May 2024. “He suddenly realises he’s been living with a murderer right under his nose.

“He isn’t going to be totally selfless here – he will only protect her as long as his own career is safe. His career means everything to him. The trust between them is gone. He isn’t prepared to lose anything, because he had absolutely nothing to do with the crime.”

One way in which Kit tried to protect Sarah was honing in on Gary, who he initially suspected of committing the crime. When he found out that Sarah had asked Gary for help, this too bruised Kit’s ego.

“Kit feels incredibly betrayed,” said Roberts, who has also appeared on Hollyoaks. “Kit knows how to cover things up way better than Gary ever could, so he feels that Sarah picked the wrong person in a moment of panic.

“That’s her ex. Going to an ex for advice or help like that is completely out of order and non-negotiable for Kit. He might sympathise a tiny bit because she was panicking, but he doesn’t think it’s justified at all.”

For Kit, the events are even more frustrating, because he likely would have protected Sarah from the outset if he knew the whole truth. As noted by Roberts, his character isn’t afraid of getting his hands dirty despite his job.

“He’s a bit of a dodgy copper, so he knows exactly how the system works,” he explained. “It was self-defence and he could have handled it. The problem now is that it’s much harder to justify because she kept quiet about Theo’s death for so long.”

While he concocts a plan to help his partner, Kit will have to act fast, as Monday’s (20 July) episode sees a major twist as Sarah is arrested on suspicion of murder by Kit’s colleague, Lisa Connor-Swain. We have a first-look clip of the scene, so don’t miss out!
