KRIS Jenner’s mother Mary Jo “MJ” Campbell has died.
The Kardashian-Jenner matriarch, who made numerous appearances on the family’s Hulu and E! reality shows, passed away at 91, Kris announced on Thursday.
“Today, we said goodbye to my beautiful Mommy MJ,” the 70-year-old momager wrote on Instagram on July 16.
“There are no words that could ever capture what she has meant to me or the heartbreak of having to say goodbye. My mom was the heart of our family.
“She taught me everything that truly matters … to love your family fiercely, to be kind, to show up for the people you love, and to never take a single moment together for granted.
“She taught us that family is everything. She showed us how to love unconditionally and how to find joy in the little moments.
“She showed me how to face life’s challenges with resilience and faith.
“Mom, thank you for every sacrifice you made, every piece of wisdom you shared, and every moment you loved us so completely.
“I will miss our daily talks, your smile, your laughter… Our hearts are broken, but we find comfort knowing that love like yours never truly leaves us.
“Your love will live on in our family, in our traditions, in every moment we are together, and in every life you touched.
When I look at my kids and my grandkids, I will forever see pieces of you in all of us. There is not a part of me that isn’t shaped by you.
“And if I have done anything right in this world, it’s because I spent my life trying to live in a way that would make you proud.
“Every memory, every moment, every blessing, it was all because of you, and I will forever thank God every single day for making you my mommy. My heart is broken into a million pieces…
“Thank you for giving me the greatest childhood and oh what a beautiful blessed life… I love you forever Mommy. Thank you for giving us everything.”
MJ was the grandmother of Kris‘s six children: Kourtney, Kim, Khloé, Rob, Kendall, and Kylie.
Hours after Kris shared the news, Kim broke her silence on her beloved grandmother’s death.
“My sweet Grandma MJ, my best friend, my gossip buddy, my forever twin,” she posted on Instagram alongside some throwback photos.
“You taught all of us the importance of family, and those values are something we’ll carry with us forever!!!!!”
The Arkansas native’s death comes eight years after Kris’s late sister, Karen Houghton, suddenly passed away in 2024.
In a March 2025 episode of The Kardashians, Kris expressed her fears for her mother’s health as she’s gotten older.
“I know my mom struggles with so much right now because she is 90 and she’s frail,” the reality star said in a confessional interview.
“Ever since my sister passed away, she’s been super sad, like we all have, and I know that I need to be there for her.”
Kris again got emotional after her mother revealed during a phone call that she had been confined to her bed for two days because she was experiencing pain.
“It just gets to the point in life where you can’t be by yourself anymore. It makes me sad,” Kris said while wiping tears from her eyes.
“This makes me really sad. I just hate it when she’s in so much pain.”
“You never know when you’re going to get a call like this, and you never know when somebody’s going to need you,” Kris further said in a confessional.
“So, I have to compartmentalize my emotions and my feelings and then pop over to my mom’s and see what’s happening.”
MJ overcame many health obstacles over the years, being a two-time cancer survivor after beating breast and colon cancer.
“When she had cancer, the radiation shrunk her intestines, so once a year she had these crazy fits where she would be throwing up all night and literally think she was gonna die,” Kim previously recalled of her grandmother’s condition on an episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
Kris lost her father, Robert True Houghton, decades earlier, after he tragically died in a car crash in Mexico.
Robert was MJ’s second husband, whom she divorced after seven years of marriage, and the father of her only two children, Kris and Karen.
MJ married her third husband, Harry Shannon, and they were together for 40 years before his death in 2003.
The identity of MJ’s first husband, whom she married at 18, is unknown.
Long before her family’s massive TV fame, MJ made a living as an etiquette schoolteacher, model, and successful entrepreneur.
She also ran a children’s boutique called Shannon & Company, which she opened in 1980.
Most recently, she had been living in Los Angeles, close to her beloved grandkids and great-grandchildren.
