Kylie Minogue, 57, bravely shared the emotional letter she wrote to her future child while undergoing IVF treatment prior to chemotherapy in 2005. The Australian pop star, who battled breast cancer at age 36 and again in 2021, revealed these personal moments in her new Netflix documentary.

'If it had happened, it would have been just shy of a miracle but it didn't work out that way. So, this was a letter to what might have been', Kylie tearfully said

Kylie explained that during her first cancer diagnosis, she postponed treatment to undergo multiple rounds of IVF, hoping to have a child. She tearfully shared the letter she wrote to the child she might have had: “Distant child, my flower, are you blowing in the breeze? Can you feel me as I breathe life into you? Wrapped in a blanket of hope, asleep in a bed of dreams, my step into eternity is not what it might have been, or not at all, for who knows which way the wind is going to blow.”

The singer reflected on the experience, saying, “One can’t help but wonder what it would have been like and I am so close to my family, it just wasn’t my path so that was what I was writing about. Even if you didn’t come to be, your somewhere, we all become something even if it’s ash and we become something else. So I was kind of hopeful and realistic at the same time.”

Kylie’s sister, Dannii Minogue, added a heartfelt perspective in the documentary, noting she never saw herself being a parent, while Kylie always did. Dannii, mother to son Ethan with ex Kris Smith, called the situation heartbreaking.

During the documentary, Kylie revealed that she had tried IVF several times, driven by hope and the belief that she couldn’t not try. She reflected on the timing of her first diagnosis at 36, explaining the difficult decision to postpone chemotherapy to attempt conception.

She also discussed the challenges of balancing her career, including major performances and festival appearances, while undergoing treatment. Despite the setbacks, Kylie emphasized the importance of early detection and expressed gratitude for her current health, saying she is well today.

The singer also shared her second breast cancer diagnosis in 2021, which she kept private for five years. She described the period as leaving her a “shell of a person” and revealed that her songwriting, including the track “Story” from her sixteenth studio album Tension, was influenced by her hidden battle.

Kylie explained her choice to share these experiences now, hoping to inspire and remind others to prioritize their health. “Making this documentary has meant looking back at so many pivotal moments in my life and this was another one,” she said.
