Michael Bolton is in “very good spirits and health” two years after being diagnosed with glioblastoma, a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer, his daughters shared in an emotional update. The Grammy Award-winning singer’s daughters, Isa and Taryn Bolton, opened up about how their father is doing today as he continues to battle this devastating illness. 
“He’s Strong, but It’s Been a Challenge”
Isa Bolton, 50, revealed that while her father faces daily challenges, “in general, he’s very strong,” and his “mobility and cognition have been terrific.” Her sister, Taryn Bolton, 46, added that their father remains “generally in a really good mood” and is excited about each new day, despite the tough times. They shared their insights in a heartfelt interview with AARP, published on Dec. 19, 2025.
Michael, now 72, was diagnosed with glioblastoma in December 2023 after undergoing emergency surgery to remove a brain tumor. Just a month later, in January 2024, he had a second surgery to treat an infection, followed by radiation and chemotherapy. 
Although Bolton has faced immense challenges, he remains deeply grateful. He told AARP via email, “This past year has tested me in ways I never imagined.”
The Deadly Disease: Glioblastoma
Glioblastoma is the most common and deadliest type of brain cancer. According to the National Brain Tumor Society, it has a median survival rate of just nine months from diagnosis, and only 7% of patients survive beyond five years.
The cancer grows rapidly and spreads tentacles into the brain, making it difficult to treat. Michael Bolton’s symptoms started with a fall, leading to the emergency surgery. Afterward, he experienced a “significant personality change,” which left his grandchildren concerned, though Isa Bolton mentioned that he has mostly returned to his normal self. 
The Daughters Who Are His Caregivers
Michael’s three adult daughters—Isa, Taryn, and Holly Bolton—are his primary caregivers. Taryn, who lives with him full-time in his Westport, Connecticut home, Isa visits three days a week, while Holly flies in once a month.
Caregiving has been emotionally draining for the Bolton family, but Taryn advises others in similar situations to prioritize self-care, explaining that caregiving can be overwhelming, lonely, and exhausting.
Bolton’s Time Away from the Stage
Due to his health condition, Michael Bolton is no longer performing. The singer, known for his chart-topping hits like “Soul Provider” and his cover of “When a Man Loves a Woman,” has spent more time at home with his family since his diagnosis, eating meals with them that he likely never had time for during his long career.
Isa shared, “He’s been home for two years, recovering. We probably had more meals with him in two years than we have had our entire lives.” 
A Grateful Spirit
Despite his health battles, Michael remains connected to his fans, expressing his gratitude for their support. He told AARP, “It’s amazing how a few words from someone you’ve never met can lift your spirit and steady your steps. It reminds me that we’re all connected, and none of us walk through life’s challenges alone.”
Michael’s Ongoing Journey
Though Michael is no longer performing, his daughters and family continue to help him stay centered, reminding him of what’s worth fighting for. His emotional update serves as a testament to his strength, resilience, and the importance of family during difficult times.
