Rebecca Adlington, the legendary Olympic swimmer, has shared a heartwarming milestone as she took her newborn daughter, Thea Joy, for her very first swim. The 37-year-old mum beamed with pride in a series of sweet Instagram snaps from the pool, as Thea experienced her first dip in the water – a moment that has captured the hearts of fans.
Rebecca, who welcomed Thea just last month after enduring the heartache of two miscarriages, looked radiant in a chic black and green swimsuit. Her joy was palpable as she cradled her daughter before taking her for a swim, eager for Thea to follow in her own swimming champion footsteps.
Joined by husband Andy Parsons, their two-year-old son Albie, and Summer, Rebecca’s eight-year-old daughter from her previous marriage to Harry Needs, the family made a special day of it. Sharing a precious photo of herself holding Thea ahead of the swim, Rebecca captioned it: “Thea’s first swimming lesson. Loved our lesson this morning, one of us even fell asleep (spoiler: it wasn’t me)”.

The fun-filled family outing comes just days after Rebecca bravely hit back at a “mum guilt” critic who shamed her for treating herself to a manicure while adjusting to life as a mother of three.

In a new update, Rebecca, who looked incredible in a black and green swimsuit, was all smiles as she cradled her baby girl in the swimming pool

The two-time Olympic gold medalist also shared an adorable photo of her holding her baby girl ahead of getting into the pool
Rebecca shared her experience on Instagram, where she revealed that she had taken time for herself and enjoyed a much-needed pampering session at the salon. But as Thea began crying, a kind stranger stepped in to help, allowing Rebecca a brief moment of relaxation. She shared her gratitude with her followers, writing: “Her kindness and taking time out of her day was so lovely. I know it seems small, but it’s the first thing I’ve done for me in a long time. A huge thank you to her.”
However, not everyone appreciated Rebecca’s act of self-care. One follower sent her a message scolding her for putting herself first, suggesting that mothers should always prioritize their children above all else. The message left Rebecca feeling sad, and she took to her Instagram Story to address the unfair “mum guilt” narrative.
Rebecca passionately shared: “Yesterday I got this message after I posted about my nails. I wouldn’t normally share this but it made me sad. I didn’t choose to have another child… WE chose to have another child. Why is it always ‘mum guilt’ and not ‘we feel guilty’? We should be better at looking after ourselves so we can be better parents.”
This marks the latest chapter in Rebecca’s powerful journey to motherhood. Earlier this month, she shared the heartbreaking news that her grandmother Joyce had passed away on the very same day she gave birth to her “rainbow baby,” Thea.
Rebecca emotionally reflected on her journey to becoming a mother of three: “What a rollercoaster this whole experience has been. Three years, two miscarriages, 39 weeks carrying our magical rainbow girl, and 87 hours in hospital.”
She went on to reveal that Thea’s middle name, Joy, was a tribute to her late grandmother, Joyce. “Thea Joy Parsons arrived on 28th February, the very same day my nana, Joyce, passed away. A true full circle moment of life. Joy is a nod to her, and we know Thea will bring us all so much joy.”
Rebecca’s heartfelt journey has resonated deeply with her followers, as she continues to inspire others with her strength and vulnerability in navigating the challenges of motherhood.
We wish Rebecca and her family all the best as they continue this exciting new chapter in their lives.
