Richard Osman has finally addressed swirling claims that the BBC’s beloved celebrity quiz show, Pointless Celebrities, had been axed — and fans can breathe a sigh of relief, sort of.
The show’s celeb spin-off, which followed the original Pointless launch in 2009, first aired in 2011 and has since seen countless famous faces battle it out for charity. But this week, reports suggested the programme had been shelved while the regular daytime Pointless would continue.
A BBC spokesperson clarified: “Whilst there are currently no plans for any new celebrity editions this year, Pointless remains a much-loved programme for audiences on BBC One and iPlayer.”
Fans quickly took to social media, worried the show they’ve loved for over a decade might be gone for good. Richard himself chimed in on X to set the record straight:
“No idea where this news has come from today. We stopped making this show in 2022!”
Fans pointed out that episodes continued to air long after filming ended, some as recently as August 2025. Richard responded with trademark humour:
“It’s nice to see myself in my early thirties though.” 😄
When asked whether a return could ever happen, he teased:
“Definitely no more from me, but who knows!”
The news comes on the heels of Richard stepping down from House of Games after nine years at the helm. On his podcast This Is Entertainment, he reflected:
“It has been such a great pleasure, and honour, to present House of Games for the last nine years. With the absolute best team in television. But it’s time to let someone else have a go.”

Michael Sheen has now been confirmed as the show’s new host. Sharing the news on Instagram, Richard joked:
“Beyond thrilled to be handing the #HouseOfGames keys over to the one and only Michael Sheen. I promise to put the hoover round before he arrives.”
