Rod Stewart is facing growing criticism from fans after he was seen cheering on Scotland at their World Cup match, just hours after cancelling a scheduled concert in California due to health concerns. 
The 81-year-old music legend was due to perform at the North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre in Chula Vista on Friday night, but the show was called off at the last minute while fans were already arriving at the venue.
His team later confirmed the cancellation was due to a respiratory infection and laryngitis, stating that doctors had advised him not to perform despite efforts to go ahead with the show.
However, less than 24 hours later, Rod was seen travelling with his sons Aidan and Alistair on a private jet to Boston, where he attended Scotland’s World Cup match against Haiti.
The star was later spotted in the stands celebrating Scotland’s 1-0 victory, appearing in good spirits as he supported the national team.
However fans have been left less than impressed as they took to Twitter to vent their frustrations, accusing him of being ‘disingenuous’.
The contrasting events quickly sparked debate online, with many fans expressing frustration over the situation and questioning the decision to cancel the concert while still travelling to attend the football match.
On social media, some fans described the situation as “disappointing” and “hard to accept,” pointing out that many had already arrived at the venue before being told the show had been cancelled.
Others said they understood that illness can be unpredictable, but felt the timing of events raised concerns, with comments suggesting the situation appeared “confusing” and “frustrating” for ticket holders.
Following the cancellation, Rod had posted a message apologising to fans, explaining that although he felt better after treatment, his voice was not strong enough to perform and that he hoped to reschedule the show.
Concertgoers later shared their disappointment online, with some describing long travel times and last-minute notifications that the event would not go ahead.
Despite the backlash, Rod has not yet issued further comments regarding his appearance at the football match.
