Despite the severity of his diagnosis, Duguay is determined to fight, drawing strength from his past as an athlete. He reflected on his decision to go “all in” with treatment, even though his journey has taken him to places he never imagined, including considering alternative treatments.
With chemotherapy working alongside alternative methods like blood filtration via ozone and methylene blue to treat his cancer, Duguay has faced a challenging road.
“I’ve always prided myself on pushing through battles,” Duguay said. “But this one required surrender, presence, and trust in my doctors.”
Support from Family and Friends ❤️

Duguay’s family, especially his daughters Shay Thomas and Amber, have been his greatest pillars of support. They set up a GoFundMe campaign to help fund his expensive treatments—and the outpouring of love has been overwhelming. With contributions surpassing their original goal, Duguay now has the resources to seek out treatments across Mexico, Russia, or Germany.
Duguay’s fiancée, Natalie Ackerman, has also been by his side, and he credits her as his “rock” throughout this entire process.
“Even when the days get dark, she keeps me grounded,” he shared, acknowledging her crucial role in his recovery.
Embracing Faith and Acceptance 🙏
While Duguay continues to battle cancer with every ounce of strength, his mindset has shifted significantly. Initially, he struggled to accept help from others but now embraces it, seeing it as part of the healing process.
He shared that this struggle has opened his eyes to new ways of looking at his journey, both mentally and spiritually. “Sometimes, God will use certain people to help others,” he said, revealing his deeper understanding of the significance of his fight.
Looking Ahead: A Return to Charity Work 🌟

As Duguay fights to regain his health, he plans to return to the charity work he was once passionate about. His goal is to not only overcome this health crisis but to use his experience to inspire others who are facing similar challenges.
He expressed his desire to use his story as a means of giving back, stating, “Once I’m better, I’m going to do a lot more of it.”

A Message of Hope for Others 🌈

Through the trials and tribulations, Ron Duguay’s story is one of hope, strength, and determination. He urges others to get their health checked regularly, especially for diseases like colon cancer. “You never know what’s quietly developing inside you. Be proactive, not reactive,” he advised.
As he continues his fight, Duguay is looking forward to the future with optimism, determined to not only recover but to help others along the way. “It’s about embracing the journey, no matter where it takes me,” he concluded.
The NHL Alumni association has also been instrumental in supporting him, with former rivals and teammates offering kind words and practical help.
