Rylan Clark has opened up about his disappointment after missing out on the hosting role for Strictly Come Dancing, which was awarded to Emma Willis, Johannes Radebe, and Josh Widdicombe. The trio will take over the BBC ballroom dance show in September following the departure of long-standing hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman last year.

Sharing a video of his iconic X Factor crying moment from 2012, Rylan added a heartfelt message: “Just wanted to say as it was reported I was in ‘The Race’ for Strictly, the biggest congrats to Emma and equal congrats to Johannes and Josh. You’re all going to have the best time. Made up for you’s. This wasn’t my time sadly but am extremely grateful to even have been considered. I’m taking the news really well but genuinely looking forward to the new series with you three x.”
The new hosts were chosen after a secret audition process earlier this year, which involved several high-profile presenters including Sara Cox, Zoe Ball, and Rylan himself. Sara Cox described her experience, comparing it to a fun, interactive game, and praised the secrecy and excitement of the process.
Rylan’s post showcased both his sense of humor and his emotional connection to the show, highlighting the challenges of facing public disappointment while maintaining professionalism. Fans responded with support and admiration for his grace and positivity.
Emma, Johannes, and Josh also shared their own reactions, admitting that the announcement left them feeling ‘petrified’ but excited. Their behind-the-scenes Instagram clips showed candid moments as they prepared for their official photoshoot, revealing the nervous anticipation and thrill of stepping into such a beloved television role.
Despite missing out, Rylan remains an influential figure in the entertainment industry, balancing previous reality TV fame with a thoughtful and engaging public presence, demonstrating resilience in the face of professional setbacks.
