Sam Thompson has opened up for the first time about how he truly feels regarding his ex, Zara McDermott, dating Louis Tomlinson. The radio host, 33, split from Zara, 29, in 2024 after five years together, and Zara quickly confirmed her relationship with the former One Direction star, going public on Instagram after weeks of speculation.
During Thursday’s Hits Radio Breakfast Show, Sam was caught off guard by a brutal listener question, which left him momentarily speechless. The listener, Holly, asked: “How do you feel about playing the One Direction song Steal My Girl, knowing that one of the 1D boys actually stole your girl?”
After a few seconds of silence, Sam recovered and responded, “Holly, I’m live on air!” He added, “First of all, and I mean this, it’s a brilliant song. I still listen to it on the tube, which probably sounds weird, but I don’t feel weird about it. I’m happy as long as everyone else is happy.”
Sam continued, “Everyone has found their person, and I think that’s really nice. I’ve met the guy, and he seems like a really nice dude, so I feel pretty good about it. And it’s an absolute banger. Everyone is looking for love, you know.”
Zara and Louis made their romance official in early 2025, with the couple enjoying a romantic Caribbean getaway after spending their first Christmas together. Zara has also moved into Louis’s lavish north London mansion after leaving the Fulham home she once shared with Sam.
Zara’s support for Louis was evident as she traveled with him to Denmark last month for a leg of his world tour. On Instagram, she shared a photo of Louis performing in Copenhagen, captioned with love hearts and crying emojis.
Louis kicked off his tour in Hamburg, Germany, on March 23 and will be touring Europe, North America, and Australia through October. Zara has been by his side, even revealing on an Instagram Q&A that she couldn’t live without her family, friends, and of course, Louis.
