Sara Haines is opening up about a private exchange with Summer House star Kyle Cooke that didn’t unfold quite the way she expected.
The The View co-host recently shared that she decided to message Cooke directly after following his storyline throughout season 10 of the Bravo reality series. Now, during a new episode of the companion podcast Behind the Table, Haines revealed how the reality star responded—and admitted the exchange left her feeling a little humbled.
Producer Brian Teta joked that Haines hadn’t simply sent a quick message, describing it as “a manifesto.” Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin agreed, laughing that the message was so lengthy it rivaled official government documents.
When asked how Cooke responded, Haines summed it up with one word: “Short.”
Griffin quickly added that the response was still thoughtful, while Haines explained that Cooke thanked her for reaching out and genuinely appreciated her support.
Teta jokingly interpreted the interaction by saying the message essentially amounted to: “I’m probably not reading that whole essay, but thanks for reaching out.”
Griffin then teased her colleague even further, joking that if Haines hadn’t prominently featured photos of her husband and children on her social media profile, Cooke might have replied with a much longer—and possibly flirtier—message.
The lighthearted conversation followed Haines’ earlier revelation that she felt compelled to contact Cooke after watching his difficult journey on Summer House.
According to Haines, she found it difficult watching Cooke repeatedly struggle to make others understand his perspective. She also expressed concern about what she viewed as signs that he was using alcohol as a coping mechanism, saying she often wanted to tell him through the television that someone understood what he was experiencing.
Haines explained that she felt Cooke was frequently dismissed and criticized by those around him, leaving her wanting to offer encouragement.
She also said his story was especially emotional given his highly publicized relationship struggles with Amanda Batula. The couple separated in January after four years of marriage, and much of the season centered on the fallout from their relationship.
While many viewers criticized Cooke for his treatment of Batula, later developments revealed that Batula had begun seeing fellow cast member West Wilson, who was both Cooke’s friend and the former partner of their co-star Ciara Miller.
At the time of publication, representatives for Cooke at Bravo had not publicly commented on the discussion from Behind the Table.
