Shep Rose spoke of the “guilt” he had about his past relationship with Taylor Ann Green in his just-released memoir, Nothing in Moderation: A Psychedelic Reckoning With Excess.
While also detailing a call he got from Andy Cohen, 58, following his messy appearance at BravoCon in November 2023, where he was not only wasted but on drugs, the 46-year-old Southern Charm star admitted to making many mistakes amid his two-year romance with Taylor, 31, and confessed to being morally bankrupt.
“I do have a lot of guilt associated with Taylor and our relationship. I cheated. I was partying a lot, sending her home in Ubers and staying out with fellow nightlife folks,” Shep wrote in his latest book, via a July 21 report from Us Weekly. “She was right: I thought I was some sort of rock star.”
According to Shep, he would engage in “one-night stands” with women and hope no one would “post a picture” of him online.
“I didn’t want to, or know how to, say no to anything that was offered, be it girls, drugs, liquor,” he shared. “I hate admitting it, but I was sort of a bad guy, piss-poor morally.”
In an effort to make a change, Shep enlisted the help of ayahuasca, a hallucinogenic drug, during a week-long trip to Costa Rica. And during the getaway, he couldn’t help but think of Taylor and “how much she loved [him].”
“I could just see it in her eyes every day. And in her arms and kisses,” he wrote. “She would crawl all over me when I would be trying to watch a documentary, trying to cuddle, and I would get mad because I wanted her to pay attention to the film.”
“And I know I took it for granted. But it was special … She lit up a room and made everyone feel happy around her. Kind and always laughing and supporting others. Every one of my friends was crazy about her and us,” he added. “I wasn’t scared to lose her, though, which maybe I need.”
Following his trip to Costa Rica, Shep had lunch with Taylor’s mom, Leslie Green, and her sister, Catie King. As he explained, Leslie would “periodically” check in on him, likely because she saw “a lot” of her late son, Richard Worthington “Worth” Green, who died in 2023 at just 36 years old, in him.
“I was thinking of him because, like me, he was a big personality, a bull in a china shop. But his true colors were amazing. Funny, generous of spirit, thoughtful with boundless energy, etc.,” Shep revealed, noting that there was also “a reckless, excess-driven, and dangerous side” to their shared personalities.
Shep then admitted to feeling regret about how Taylor was “vilified for different actions and reactions” on Southern Charm.
“It’s just tough to think that bringing her into the TV world is all on me,” he wrote. “Everyone was watching and waiting for cracks in our relationship. My only hope is that Taylor is able to look back at this crazy but exciting time in her life, when we got to go and do things, see places, and make fun of each other, and have it produce a smile.”
In another snippet from his book, Shep recalled “finally [hitting] bottom” after getting a call from Andy after attending BravoCon in 2023.
After answering the call “sheepishly,” Andy informed him that “something needs to change.”
“Apparently, there was an internal email from [Watch What Happens Live] staff about my antics,” Shep wrote. “I agreed with them and expressed remorse.”
Looking back at the event, Shep said he was “hammered the whole time” and “did cocaine on a couple of nights with strangers.”
Shep also endured a tense interaction with a “high-level executive” at the network.
“I totally blew him off,” Shep recalled. “Then realized who he was and clumsily tried to rectify the situation. Big cringe.”
He then engaged in a “screaming match” with co-star Craig Conover, 37.
“So, I got sent to the principal’s office for a slap on the wrist,” Shep continued. “But the network’s reaction wasn’t what worried me. I was concerned about myself.”
As time went on, Shep found himself at the season nine reunion, where he “realized something had to change.”
“The wild ride that had been my life for 20-plus years was finally catching up to me. What was once amusing was not embarrassing, and I didn’t feel like I was in control,” he shared. “Frankly, I was scared, which was a feeling I’d never felt before.”
Southern Charm season 12 is currently in production and expected to premiere on Bravo sometime later this year.
