In a bombshell revelation during I’m A Celebrity All Stars, Sinitta has opened up about her tumultuous 40-year on-again, off-again relationship with Simon Cowell, admitting the reason their romance ultimately failed – her own emotional struggles.
Sinitta, the iconic singer and TV personality, first met Simon in the early ’80s, when she was just a teenager, at a London nightclub. What followed was a famously on-off love story that spanned more than two decades, a relationship that was filled with passion, heartbreak, and – at times – heartache.
The pair may not have ended up together, but their bond remained strong as friends. However, Sinitta admitted to her I’m A Celebrity campmates that her possessiveness and emotional needs were the breaking point of their love story. “I was too needy and possessive,” she confessed, explaining that Simon, who is now engaged to Lauren Silverman, had always been a complicated figure to get close to.

Sinitta opened up about her relationship with ex Simon Cowell on Friday’s I’m A Celebrity All Stars, as she candidly shared the reason why their relationship failed
In a candid discussion, Sinitta shared the raw emotions she went through as she navigated her love for Simon. Despite the ups and downs, Sinitta truly believed that one day she and Simon would get married and live happily ever after. “I’m such a romantic,” she said. “I thought it was going to be our happily ever after, but it wasn’t. That was hard to accept.”
The love story between Simon and Sinitta wasn’t just confined to the glamorous spotlight of British TV – it was a story of personal turmoil too. Sinitta’s heartbreak only deepened when Simon moved on with Lauren Silverman and had their son, Eric.
“He’s got his whole family now,” she said, reflecting on Simon’s life with Lauren. “And it’s like, wow, okay, everyone has their proper person now.”

The singer – who became a familiar face on the ITV talent show as Simon’s guest at the judges’ houses stage of the competition – first met him in a London nightclub in the early 1980s

Sinitta confessed that while it could be a challenge to get hold of Simon, their relationship failed as she because ‘too needy and possessive’
Simon’s journey from a rebellious bachelor to a family man was difficult for Sinitta to witness. “I was the right person for a time, but now Simon has that whole level of love and stability with someone else,” she said. “It took me a while to get my head around that.”
Sinitta’s candidness wasn’t just limited to Simon – she opened up about the aftermath of her marriage to Andy Willner, which she revealed was partly a “revenge move” after her emotional fallout with Simon. Sinitta acknowledged that despite the failed marriage, there was always unfinished business with Simon that she couldn’t escape. “The man I married was lovely, but even during that relationship, it was clear I still had unfinished business with Simon,” she admitted.
Therapy played a key role in helping her understand why she clung to Simon for so long. “He was a constant in my life,” she explained. “When I was on tour and becoming famous, he was always there, either physically or on the phone. I found security in that.”
As if her personal confessions weren’t enough to get fans talking, Sinitta also took to social media after I’m A Celebrity sparked controversy over an edited row with Gemma Collins. Sinitta furiously accused the show of editing her heated exchange with Gemma, where she had been branded “a joke” by the TOWIE star. According to Sinitta, the entire confrontation was blown out of proportion, with vital parts of the conversation being cut.
“I know you may not know me, but I’m a kind person who would never be horrible to Gemma Collins or anyone else,” she fired back on social media, defending herself against criticism. “We actually bonded over discussing Chicago and I never called her a joke.”
In a fiery defense of herself, Sinitta called out the show’s editing team for misrepresenting the real exchange between her and Gemma. “We were actually speaking amicably, but they edited it out. You all have a right to your opinion, but let’s not jump to conclusions without knowing the full story,” she added.
Sinitta’s on-screen honesty and unapologetic self-reflection have stirred up a storm of reactions, and it looks like her revelations will keep fans and viewers talking for a long time. Whether she was too emotionally intense for Simon or just a hopeless romantic at heart, one thing’s for sure: Sinitta’s love life has never been anything but captivating.
