Sir Rod Stewart has been forced to pull out of a scheduled performance just hours before taking to the stage, after sharing an unexpected and concerning health update with fans.
The 81-year-old music icon revealed he was no longer well enough to perform, leaving audiences disappointed and worried for the legendary rocker, who remains one of the most enduring figures in British music.
Rod was due to appear in Chula Vista, California, as part of the American leg of his “One Last Time” tour. However, with only hours remaining before showtime, he confirmed the cancellation in an emotional statement shared via Instagram.
According to the message released by his team, the singer had already travelled to the venue and made every possible effort to go ahead with the show, but medical advice ultimately forced him to step back.
Doctors diagnosed him with an acute upper respiratory infection leading to laryngitis, leaving him unable to perform vocally.
The statement read that, despite his determination to continue, he was “unable to take to the stage this evening” following medical guidance.
Following the announcement, Rod later addressed fans directly, sharing a message from the venue where he expressed regret that the performance could not go ahead, explaining that although he was beginning to feel better after treatment, his voice was still not ready.
He apologised sincerely for the disappointment caused and reassured fans that he is hoping to reschedule the show.
Despite the setback, the veteran performer is expected to return to the stage at Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre in Colorado on June 15.
The health scare comes despite Rod previously reassuring fans about his wellbeing, insisting in earlier interviews that he remains in strong health and is determined to keep performing for years to come.
Speaking in the past, he joked about making the most of what he described as his “final 15 years,” saying he intended to continue enjoying life, performing, and celebrating every moment on the road.
The singer, who has battled prostate and thyroid cancer in the past, has often spoken openly about ageing, lifestyle, and his continued passion for touring.
He also previously shared his love of post-show celebrations with his band, while acknowledging that he now has to take greater care of his voice compared to earlier decades of his career.
For now, fans are hoping for a swift recovery for the iconic star as he prepares for his next scheduled appearance.
