The married co-hosts are also parents to son Michael, 28, and daughter Lola, 24.

The couple spoke with PEOPLE on Wednesday, July 23, at the premiere of their new ESPN series Running with the Wolves, which follows Ripa and Consuelos as they explore Italian football as owners of Campobasso FC, a Serie C club nicknamed the “wolves.”

During the red carpet event, the pair opened up about their son Joaquin, 22, who graduated from the University of Michigan this past May. Kelly Ripa's youngest son Joaquin recalls overwhelming moment that led to him calling his famous parents

“Slow and steady wins the race kind of thing,” Consuelos, 54, said when asked about the advice he gave his son.

Ripa, also 54, added: “Also, the less we say the better. Kids are more reticent to take advice from their parents, so we just keep it quiet, and we’ve been lucky so far. The couple also share son Michael, 28, and daughter Lola, 24.

Earlier this month, the Live with Kelly and Mark co-hosts appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers, where they humorously said that viewers enjoy watching their show because they like “watching their parents fight.”

Meyers joked, “So people like to watch their parents fight, except for your children,” prompting Ripa to explain that their youngest son occasionally watches — but not for them.

“Our youngest son — he’s 22 — we asked him to come that night because he was visiting us. He lives in Michigan,” she said. “And I said, ‘Do you want to come see Seth tonight?’ And he said, ‘No, I’ll just watch it when it airs.’”

Ripa continued, “And I said, ‘Oh, you’re going to watch?’ And he said, ‘Well, I watch Seth.’ So he’s like, ‘I’m not watching for you. I’m just naturally watching Seth.’”Live': Kelly Ripa & Mark Consuelos Tease Major Life Change With Son Joaquin

Ripa also recently spoke about the “nepo baby” conversation on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast, explaining why she doesn’t view it negatively.

She said one of the benefits of her children graduating without student loan debt is something she feels “comfort” in, given her and Consuelos’ financial success.

“I think my kids feel very fortunate in general,” she said, noting that “they don’t have student loans.”

She added, “There’s a comfort in knowing my kids got to graduate without having to climb out of a mountain of debt. They are so appreciative and so grateful.”

Running with the Wolves premieres Tuesday, July 29 on ESPN and ESPN+.
