Dermot O’Neill, beloved star of Mrs Brown’s Boys, is grieving the heartbreaking loss of his wife, Patricia ‘Chickie’ Maguire, who passed away early Monday morning at St Francis Hospice in Blanchardstown. She was 60 years old and had only been given months to live following a shocking cancer diagnosis.

Dermot told The Irish Sun: “Chickie left us about half three in the morning. We are absolutely devastated. I am going to miss her so much.”

Chickie, a devoted Dunnes Stores worker, had travelled to Spain earlier this year for a hernia operation — but surgeons discovered multiple tumors in her stomach, revealing stage 4 cancer. Determined to be with her family, she returned to Ireland, saying she couldn’t bear to be away from her children.

Breaking the news to her sons, Salvador, 39, and Evan, 24, from her hospital bed was one of the most difficult moments. “Dermot put his hand on my knee and both boys held each of my hands, and we all hugged and cried,” Chickie said.

She had also expressed a wish to spend one more Christmas with her family, especially to kiss her little granddaughter Ellie, 3. Throughout her illness, she praised the care she received at Beaumont Hospital and thanked her colleagues at Dunnes Stores.

Chickie had previously cared for Dermot through his own cancer battle and described him as “amazing… a real man’s man.” Despite being 14 years younger, Dermot never imagined he would face losing her so soon.

This tragic loss leaves Dermot and the family mourning a deeply loved wife, mother, and grandmother, highlighting the fragility of life and the enduring strength of love in the face of devastating news.
