TODD AND SUMMER LEAVE WEATHERFIELD… BUT HIS LIFE-INSURANCE B0MBSHELL STUNS EVERYONE!

If any two Coronation Street residents deserve a break, it’s Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) and Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby).

It has been a rough year for both of them, from Billy Mayhew’s death in January to Summer’s recent stint in prison after her wrongful arrest for Theo Silverton’s murder.

So, it was hardly surprising when, in tonight’s episode, they announced that they’d be leaving Weatherfield behind.

While celebrating Christina Boyd’s (Amy Robbins) birthday in the Rovers, Todd and Summer told George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley) that they had booked to visit Eileen and Jason Grimshaw in Thailand.

With Todd having received the money from Theo’s life insurance that morning, George told him that the holiday was a good use of it.

Because of how Theo had abused him and then been killed by Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien), Todd saw the insurance pay-out as blood money, and didn’t want anything to do with it.

After much consideration, he decided to give the whole lot to Theo’s kids.

While this would make perfect sense to anyone else, it wasn’t what Christina was expecting, and she managed to put her foot in it when she returned to the table at the tail end of the conversation.

Christina and George have been having serious cash flow issues, thanks to her shopping addiction. With Todd having been around for this whole saga, Christina assumed that he would give the money to them.

However, when she began to thank a confused Todd for his generosity, George had to explain Christina’s misconception.

This left Todd feeling guilty about his decision, though George assured him he had no reason to.

But without the money, how will George and Christina deal with their current financial situation? And will Todd and Summer be able to enjoy their holiday knowing that Christina and George may be struggling?
