Weeks after parting ways with Helen Skelton, Gethin Jones held the hand of his father — a devoted headteacher of nearly three decades — as he took his final breath, a goodbye that broke him completely

TV presenter Gethin Jones is facing a devastating double blow — just weeks after his reported split from Helen Skelton, the Morning Live host has now shared the heartbreaking news that his father, Goronwy, has died following a long illness.

The Welsh star, who had only recently returned from Australia, posted a touching photo of himself beside his father in a hospital bed, smiling as he played him a clip on his phone.

In his emotional statement, Gethin described their final night together: “Wales defeated England — the famous Max Boyce line. We sang Hymns and Arias last night, before he left us this morning. The most perfect, peaceful end — Welsh hymns playing and the grandsons on speaker phone saying goodbye.”

Gethin revealed Goronwy had been unwell for some time but fought bravely, keeping his dry humour, strong faith, and love for classical music until the end. “Every day at Heath Hospital, someone would stop me to ask about Dad. He probably taught them at some point. He made such an impact on education — a teacher for 40 years, headteacher for 28.”

He praised the NHS staff for their exceptional care, especially his sister, who is both a nurse and a loving daughter: “She’s one of the strongest I know, though she’ll cry at a moving sentence in Welsh. She’s been amazing, didn’t miss a beat.”

The presenter also spoke about the importance of humour during hardship, mentioning his sister’s WhatsApp group that kept spirits up during “a tough old week.”

Messages of love and support flooded in from fans and celebrity friends, including Alex Jones, Sir Chris Hoy, Anthea Turner, and Jenny Ryan — all sending heartfelt condolences to the star now enduring grief on two fronts.
