After years marked by unimaginable heartbreak, Rebecca Adlington has finally shared the news her fans have been hoping — and praying — for.
The four-time Olympic gold medallist, 37, has given birth to a baby girl, Thea Joy, welcoming her into the world alongside her husband Andy Parsons — and describing the moment as the one that has made their family feel complete.
Rebecca announced the joyful arrival on Instagram on Sunday evening, posting a tender image of newborn Thea sleeping peacefully in her hospital cot, surrounded by heart shapes formed by her family’s hands.
Her caption was simple.
And devastatingly powerful:
“Our family is complete.”
🌈 A Long, Painful Road To This Moment
The arrival of Thea Joy comes after an extraordinarily painful chapter in Rebecca’s life — one she has shared with raw, heartbreaking honesty.
Over the past three years, she endured two devastating pregnancy losses.
In 2022, Rebecca suffered a miscarriage at 12 weeks after being diagnosed with a molar pregnancy, a rare and serious condition that required emergency surgery.
Just one year later, tragedy struck again.
At her 20-week scan, she learned that her baby daughter Harper had died.
Rebecca later had to give birth to her stillborn child — an experience she has described as life-altering.
“I was angry at my body,” she later admitted.
“It didn’t give me that warning. I had no symptoms. That was really hard to get over.”
💔 “I Fell Out Of Love With My Body”
Rebecca has spoken movingly about the aftermath — both physical and emotional.
Returning home still visibly pregnant.
Grieving a child she would never bring home.
“It’s incredibly hard,” she said.
“I fell out of love with my body, even though it had given me two healthy children and four Olympic gold medals.”
For a woman whose body once symbolised strength, victory and endurance, the betrayal felt overwhelming.
🤍 Shared Grief — And Shared Healing
Andy Parsons has also spoken openly about his own struggle during that time, revealing how he pushed aside his own grief to focus entirely on supporting Rebecca.
“My role was to support Becky,” he said.
“But I realised I wasn’t processing it properly myself. I was struggling a lot.”
The couple later sought counselling through baby-loss charity Petals — support Andy says was vital for both of them.
“There isn’t enough support for men in this situation,” he explained.
“They’ve lost a child as well.”
🏡 A Family Made Whole
Rebecca is already mum to eight-year-old Summer, from her previous marriage, and two-year-old Albie, whom she shares with Andy.
Now, with the arrival of Thea Joy, she says her family finally feels complete.
Even the name carries deep meaning — joy after sorrow, hope after loss.
💬 Love Pours In
Following the announcement, messages of love flooded in from fans and famous friends alike.
Fellow Olympians, celebrities and parents who had followed Rebecca’s journey shared their congratulations — celebrating not just the birth of a baby, but the strength behind the journey.
For Rebecca and Andy, Thea Joy represents far more than a new arrival.
She is proof that even after profound loss, healing is possible — and joy can return.
