A political storm has broken far beyond the football field â and this time, itâs brushing up against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Tavia Hunt, the wife of longtime Chiefs owner Clark Hunt, has publicly stepped into one of Americaâs most divisive debates, rushing to defend Tom Homan, the controversial immigration hardliner appointed as Donald Trumpâs so-called âborder czar.â
Homan, a veteran law enforcement official who has served as acting director of ICE since Trumpâs first term began in 2017, has faced fierce backlash amid the administrationâs sweeping immigration crackdown â criticism that intensified earlier this month following protests sparked by the fatal shooting of U.S. citizen Rennee Good by an ICE officer in Minnesota.
Yet as outrage mounted, Tavia Hunt made her stance unmistakably clear.
A Post That Lit the Fuse
On Instagram, Hunt reshared a pointed post highlighting Homanâs past under a very different president: Barack Obama.
During Obamaâs second term, Homan received the Presidential Rank Award for Distinguished Service, praised for achieving âextraordinary resultsâ while overseeing enforcement and removal operations at ICE.
The post read bluntly:
âBarack Obamaâs ICE chief received an award for 920,000 removals.
Donald Trumpâs ICE chief was called a Nazi.
Itâs the same person: Tom Homan.â
It didnât stop there.
The message continued by comparing deportation figures â noting that Obama oversaw 409,000 deportations in 2012, while Trumpâs administration recorded 290,000 in 2025 â before delivering its most provocative line:
âThe difference is mainstream media brainwashing.â
Within hours, the repost ignited furious reactions online, drawing both praise and condemnation as Hunt placed herself squarely in the culture-war crossfire.
A Family Unafraid of Political Heat
The Hunt familyâs conservative leanings are no secret â and this is far from their first public clash with progressive critics.
Their daughter, Gracie Hunt, previously made headlines after siding with Trump supporters who criticized the NFLâs decision to feature Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny as the Super Bowl halftime performer.
Bad Bunny, who has openly condemned Trumpâs immigration policies and once refused to tour the U.S. over fears his fans could be targeted by ICE, became a lightning rod for conservative backlash â including calls to boycott the halftime show.
Gracie publicly voiced support for a conservative counter-programming halftime event organized by Turning Point USA, praising its late founder Charlie Kirk and his widow Erika Kirk during an appearance on Fox News.
âFor my grandfather, the Super Bowl was always about families,â Gracie said, referencing Lamar Hunt, the legendary sports executive credited with coining the term Super Bowl. âFootball should come first â without compromising its character.â
Football, Politics â and a Line That Keeps Blurring
With Tavia Huntâs latest post, that line has blurred even further.
What began as a defense of a federal official has become another flashpoint in the ongoing collision between sports, politics, and identity â proving once again that in todayâs America, even the families behind championship dynasties arenât staying on the sidelines.
And judging by the reaction, this debate isnât cooling down anytime soon.
