The former MLB pitcher is accused of drinking alcohol while on DWI probation, reigniting a troubling pattern.
Another difficult chapter has unfolded for the family of Patrick Mahomes.
According to reports, Patrick Mahomes Sr, 55, has been arrested once again — this time for allegedly violating the terms of his DWI probation by consuming alcohol.
TMZ Sports reports that Mahomes Sr was booked into the Smith County Jail early Tuesday morning after locals allegedly reported him drinking — an explicit violation of the five-year probation he received following his third DWI arrest.
⛓️ A familiar and troubling pattern
This latest arrest comes after a long history of alcohol-related legal trouble.
Mahomes Sr has previously been arrested for DWI in 2008, 2019, and again in 2024, when he was taken into custody on the eve of his son’s Super Bowl appearance. He was later banned from driving after being found on the road without a valid license.
After serving 10 days in jail, he reached a plea agreement that included intense supervision during the first year of probation — along with strict conditions, including no alcohol.
It is that condition authorities now believe was broken.
🏈 A shadow cast during Super Bowl glory
The timing is painfully familiar.
In 2024, Mahomes Sr’s DWI arrest occurred just days before the Kansas City Chiefs captured another Super Bowl title, defeating the San Francisco 49ers in overtime. Footage later emerged of Mahomes Sr telling officers his arrest would “cost” his son the game — a moment that quickly went viral.
Despite the incident, he did attend the Super Bowl that weekend to watch his son lift his third Lombardi Trophy.
🎥 “It hurt me — and that woke him up”
The younger Mahomes later addressed the ordeal in ESPN’s The Kingdom docuseries, admitting the situation forced him to answer questions he never wanted to face during the most important week of his career.
“I think just knowing that it hurt me,” Mahomes said,
“woke him up to know that you can’t keep doing the same things.”
Mahomes Sr, who also appeared in the series, described the humiliation of watching his actions overshadow his son’s achievement.
“For him to have to answer questions about me,” he said,
“was probably the most embarrassing thing I’ve ever been through.”
He claimed at the time that he had stopped drinking entirely.
👨👩👧 A family watching
Mahomes’ wife Brittany Mahomes previously suggested the situation had finally hit home for Mahomes Sr, particularly as a grandfather.
“I have my kids watching me, I have my grandkids now that are watching me,” she recalled him saying.
That context makes this latest arrest even more jarring.
⚠️ What happens next
Authorities have not yet released full details, and the Smith County District Attorney has been contacted for further clarification. As with all legal matters, allegations remain unproven until addressed in court.
Still, the arrest ensures that — once again — the Mahomes family is dealing with deeply personal turmoil in the public eye.
For Patrick Mahomes Jr, it’s another reminder that even generational success on the field can’t shield against painful realities off it.
