Emma Willis has spoken candidly about the reality of marriage, revealing that her relationship with husband Matt Willis has taken “work” — but vowing she will never allow divorce to be an option.

The TV presenter, 48, and the Busted star, 42, first met back in 2004 when Emma was hosting MTV and Matt was at the peak of his pop fame. Four years later, they tied the knot in 2008, and today share three children: Isabelle, Ace and Trixie.

But in a rare confession, Emma admitted that even the most glamorous marriages require constant effort. Last year, ahead of hosting Cooking with the Stars (August 17), she said openly that her own marriage “needs work.”

“We’re Always Working on Our Marriage”

In August 2024, Emma and Matt sat down for a joint interview with The Guardian where they revealed the secret to their long-lasting relationship.

According to Emma: “Matt and I are always working on our marriage.”

She stressed that communication is at the heart of everything. “The wedding isn’t the destination, it’s the lasting part that is. As we’ve gotten older and more mature, we’ve realised that as long as we communicate, we can avoid sitting on resentments or creating the kind of environment that leads to divorce.”

Emma was firm in her stance: “I won’t allow that to happen to us — and I won’t let him do it either!”

Love, Work and Family Life

The couple recently appeared together on screen for Netflix’s hit dating series Love Is Blind UK, which they co-hosted.

Speaking on his podcast On The Mend, Matt revealed he was initially nervous about working with his wife again.

“We are working a lot together which is… you know, I was worried at one point when we started working together again that it might be a stress on our relationship,” he admitted.

But the experience, he said, has only brought them closer: “It’s been beneficial. It’s another little core thing that we do together — and it’s awesome.”

A Marriage Built to Last

After 16 years of marriage, Emma believes that facing challenges head-on has only made them stronger. Her refusal to even consider divorce reflects the determination both she and Matt share in building a lasting family unit.

While showbiz marriages often make headlines for the wrong reasons, Emma insists theirs continues to thrive because of constant honesty, communication, and a refusal to let outside pressures pull them apart.

“The wedding was never the end goal,” Emma said. “It’s the journey, the life you build together, and I’ll always fight to protect that.”
