Amy Price, 73, often describes herself as nothing more than “an ordinary mum, wife and granny” who loves dogs, horses, and yoga. But behind that modest description lies the reality of being the mother of one of Britain’s most notorious celebrities — a role that, in her own words, “came with a lot more than I bargained for.”

Katie Price’s journey from a little girl growing up in Brighton to an international tabloid sensation has been well documented. What’s less known is the quiet, unwavering presence of her mother Amy, who has stood by her side through every high and devastating low — from failed marriages, public scandals, and suicide attempts to financial collapse and endless surgeries that transformed her daughter beyond recognition.
A Childhood of Humble Beginnings

Born to Amy and her ex-husband Ray Infield, Katie’s childhood was modest. When Ray left the family when Katie was just four, Amy raised her alongside her stepfather, Paul Price — whose surname Katie eventually adopted. Growing up in Brighton, Katie attended Blatchington Mill School, where she was passionate about horse-riding and showed none of the chaos that would later follow.
A Mother’s Support — and Pain
Amy has always been her daughter’s biggest supporter. When a teenage Katie expressed an interest in modeling at 14, Amy drove her around London agencies, only to be told she was “too short.” Just a few years later, at 17, Katie — under the name Jordan — found fame as a glamour model for The Sun, something that horrified her mother.
“I hated topless modelling with a passion,” Amy recalled. “What we didn’t understand was why she had all the breast surgeries, because she didn’t need them. At 17, a photographer told her she needed to be bigger. I was so angry.”
Despite the clashes, Amy has been a constant figure of support, even as Katie’s personal life spiraled through three marriages, multiple stints in rehab, financial ruin, and public humiliation.
Living with a Terminal Diagnosis

In 2017, Amy was diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), a chronic and incurable lung condition that drastically shortened her life expectancy. After a lung transplant in 2022, Katie revealed her mother now has good days and bad days — her mind sharp but her physical abilities diminished.
Their world nearly collapsed during the transplant process when climate activists blocked the motorway, delaying the ambulance rushing Amy to the hospital. “She only had two weeks to live at the time,” Katie explained. “If she hadn’t made it to the hospital in those three hours, she wouldn’t have survived.”
Grateful for the medical staff who performed the life-saving surgery, Amy has often credited them with giving her more precious time with her children and grandchildren.
The Shadow of Peter Andre
Amy has never hidden her feelings about her daughter’s tumultuous love life, particularly when it comes to Katie’s first husband, singer Peter Andre. In her 2023 book The Last Word, Amy accused Andre of using Katie to revive his dwindling music career, describing him as “controlling” and his public persona as a carefully crafted act.
“From the word go, something didn’t feel right about Peter,” she wrote. “I had an inkling he wasn’t who he claimed to be.”
Despite Amy’s warnings before Katie entered the I’m A Celebrity jungle in 2004 — “Whatever you do, do not end up with him” — Katie fell deeply in love. The couple married in 2006, had two children, Junior and Princess, and divorced three years later.
Her criticism hasn’t stopped there; Amy has also called Katie’s later partners — Alex Reid, Kieran Hayler, and Carl Woods — “fame-hungry,” accusing them of exploiting her daughter’s name for their own gain.
A Grandmother’s Concern for Princess
Recently, Amy’s attention has turned to her granddaughter, Princess. The teenager, now a reality TV star with her ITV docu-series The Princess Diaries, has been trying to carve her own identity beyond her famous parents.
But Amy has voiced concern about Princess sharing the same management team as her father Peter, fearing a repeat of past mistakes.
“My greatest wish for my grandchildren is for them to find their own way in life,” Amy said. “Sometimes I wonder if they might be better off with new management who can offer a fresh perspective.”
The Strain of Family Feuds
Katie and Peter’s long-standing feud continues to cast a shadow over their children. Princess, now caught in the middle, has publicly insisted she’s “best friends” with her mother, but the tension is undeniable.
Katie recently expressed a desire for peace during an episode of The Katie Price Show podcast, saying:
“There’s no reason both parents can’t be there to support her. Life would be better if we could just sit down, talk, and move forward. Not best friends, but at least at peace — for the sake of the kids.”
An Ordinary Life Made Extraordinary
Despite the chaos, Amy tries to live quietly by the sea in her “cosy little South Coast bungalow,” a home Katie fondly refers to as “Pop In House.” She fills her days with yoga, walks, and caring for her dogs — a small slice of normalcy in a life defined by public drama.
Her son Dan and daughter Sophie remain close. Sophie co-hosts Katie’s podcast, while Dan has joked about going grey from “the highs and lows” of having Katie as a sister.
Through it all, Amy has been unwavering — the steady presence in Katie’s stormy life. Her only wish now, she says, is to see her daughter finally find peace and stability before her time runs out.
