Nearly a year after their breakup, Zara McDermott and Sam Thompson found themselves telling two very different stories — on the very same night.
Within hours of each other, their social media posts revealed just how far apart their new chapters now are.
On Saturday evening, Made In Chelsea star Sam Thompson, 33, finally went Instagram official with his new girlfriend, DJ Talitha Balinska, sharing a beaming photo of the pair during a London dinner date. At almost the exact same time, his ex Zara quietly posted a glowing, loved-up birthday selfie with her boyfriend Louis Tomlinson, marking what she called “the best birthday ever.”
The timing didn’t go unnoticed.
Zara, preparing to turn 29, shared snaps from a cosy weekend getaway — twinkling Christmas lights, quiet moments, and then a smiling photo beside the former One Direction star. Her caption was simple but telling:
“The best birthday ever with you ❤️✨ & the final year of my 20’s!!”
Earlier that evening, Sam had taken a very different approach.
While confirming his new relationship publicly for the first time this month, he also spoke candidly — and pointedly — about his past with Zara on his Staying Relevant podcast alongside best friend Pete Wicks. During the episode, Sam revealed that Zara had taken one of his most “prized possessions” when they split — a comment many listeners interpreted as a loaded reference to their five-year relationship.

Rather than addressing her ex or the comment, Zara focused entirely on celebrating her birthday with Louis, sharing glimpses of a peaceful, loved-up escape.

Zara and Louis were first linked in March, before confirming their relationship publicly in August. Since then, they’ve kept things relatively low-key, offering only occasional glimpses into their romance — a sharp contrast to her highly public relationship with Sam.
Sam, meanwhile, has embraced openness.
Earlier this month, he confirmed that Talitha, 25, is officially his girlfriend after several months of dating. The pair were introduced by Sam’s close friend and business partner Reza Amiri-Garroussi, and Sam described asking Talitha to be his girlfriend as intentionally simple.
“I really, really like you,” he recalled telling her.
“You make me feel comfortable. I feel like I can be myself.”
He added:
“I’m 33. I wouldn’t be dating someone this long if I didn’t think it had legs.”
Pete Wicks congratulated his friend, pointing out how different this Christmas feels compared to last year — when Sam’s long-term relationship with Zara was coming to an end.
“Christmas is back on,” Sam said simply.
“I’m happy.”
Zara and Sam first went public in May 2019 and spent nearly five years sharing their lives online — red carpets, holidays, and festive family moments in matching Christmas pyjamas. Their split in December 2024 marked the end of one of reality TV’s most talked-about relationships.
