Alan Carr is officially a baron! The comedian, 49, revealed that he has purchased the £3.25million Ayton Castle in Scotland and has been granted the title of The Barony of Ayton, a historic title dating back to 1324. But that’s not all—Alan is planning to get his own tartan, and he’s calling it his “turret era” as he’s ready to embrace his new life as a landowner.
Speaking on Pete Wicks and Sam Thompson’s Staying Relevant podcast, Alan shared his excitement about this new chapter. “I’ve always wanted a castle, and now I’m 50, I just want to do what I want to do,” he joked. “I’m a baron, and I’m going to get my own tartan!”
While Alan’s purchase of the castle may sound like the ultimate midlife crisis, he’s thrilled about the project. “I haven’t been this excited about a project for ages,” Alan said. “I’ve got the survey, and I’m waiting for the keys to come.”
The sprawling estate features 16 bedrooms, 160 acres of gardens, and even its own miniature railway. But Alan has big plans for the castle—he’s signed a seven-figure deal with Disney+ to film a renovation series, where he will transform the centuries-old property into a luxury hotel and spa. The show, titled Castle Man, will follow in the footsteps of his previous home renovation series with Amanda Holden.
In a quirky twist, Alan also revealed his dream of turning the castle into a kind of “zoo.” “I want animals everywhere—donkeys, Highland cows, and maybe even wolves to help the ecosystem,” he joked. “I want people to come in, have a cream tea, and enjoy the place.”.png?width=1200&enable=upscale)
However, not everyone is thrilled with Alan’s grand plans. Residents of the nearby area have raised concerns about public access to the grounds. A meeting to discuss his plans was canceled due to overwhelming interest, but locals can still submit their grievances to the community council.
Stay tuned for more updates on Alan’s castle renovation and the upcoming Castle Man series. Alan’s fans can’t wait to see his plans come to life!
