Kate Garraway, the beloved GMB presenter, has shared her heart-wrenching emotions as she navigates life without her late husband, Derek Draper. Derek, who passed away in January 2024 after a lengthy battle with Covid-related health issues, left behind Kate and their two children, Darcey and Billy. 
While Kate has bravely embarked on a new chapter of her life, including exciting professional opportunities, she recently admitted that there’s a fresh layer of sadness that accompanies these moments.
Kate’s Heartfelt Admission: “We Always Said We’d Travel Together”
In a candid interview, Kate reflected on the loss of her husband and how it continues to impact her journey. Despite embracing new opportunities, such as hosting her podcast and YouTube series DXB Unheard about Dubai, Kate shared the emotional weight of traveling and living without Derek. 
She said, “It’s sad in a way because it’s a time Derek and I always said we’d travel together and do more grown-up things. We used to love traveling and holidays.”
She revealed that while she’s taking on new adventures, there’s still a deep sense of longing for the shared experiences they had planned. “This time in my life is terrifying, but I’m trying to enjoy it.”
Facing the Future: “I Don’t Know What’s Next” 
For Kate, life has been extremely structured and focused on caring for Derek over the past five years. Now, she’s uncertain about what lies ahead. She shared, “I don’t know what’s next, but rather than be terrified, try to enjoy it.”
While her new opportunities, such as traveling between the UK and the United Arab Emirates, have been rewarding, the loss of Derek looms heavily in her heart. Yet, through it all, Kate is embracing the adventure of life and the challenge of moving forward for herself and her children.
