Scott Mills, the recently sacked BBC Radio 1 presenter, has admitted to a violent outburst against an ex-boyfriend after discovering him in bed with his friend. Mills, 53, who was let go from the BBC after 27 years of service, revealed in his autobiography the shocking incident, where he pinned his former partner to the wall by his throat following a devastating betrayal.

The controversial revelation has come to light as Mills faces allegations of ‘serious sexual offences’ against a boy under the age of 16, dating back to 1997-2000. The case was investigated by the Metropolitan Police in 2016, but charges were never filed after the Crown Prosecution Service deemed the evidence insufficient. The BBC has refused to comment on the reasons for Mills’ sacking, only stating that it was related to ‘personal conduct’. However, sources inside the corporation suggest that the timing of his dismissal, following the airing of the Huw Edwards drama, may be linked to a broader reckoning within the BBC.

In his 2012 autobiography “Bye, Love You”, Mills opened up about his relationship with Darren, an ex-boyfriend he knew was bad news but was still drawn to. Mills revealed that after Darren moved in with him, the relationship became volatile and ultimately ended with Mills discovering Darren in bed with a friend. In a fit of rage, Mills admitted to pinning him to the wall with his hand around his throat, throwing him and his belongings out of his flat. Mills went on to describe how he felt betrayed and humiliated by the incident, even though he had known deep down that Darren was trouble. He also expressed regret for ever getting involved with him.

Mills, who had been married to Sam Vaughan in 2024 after meeting in 2016, has since found stability with his husband, and the couple appeared on BBC’s Celebrity Race Across the World, where they won the competition. Scott Mills 'relationship complaint' exposed after BBC sacking - Liverpool Echo

As for the sexual assault allegations, Mills was questioned by police in 2018 about incidents dating back to the late 1990s. The investigation, which had initially begun in 2016, was closed in 2019 without charges being brought. However, following his sacking, rumors have swirled within the BBC, with many insiders expressing shock at the speed of the decision.

While some describe Mills as ‘kind and generous’, others at the BBC are said to be stunned by the lack of a suspension or prolonged investigation. One insider noted, “No suspension period or prolonged investigation does not bode well.”

The full story behind Scott Mills’ dramatic fall from grace is still unfolding, and the mystery surrounding his sacking continues to captivate.
