Lorraine Kelly is facing an emotional struggle after recent cuts to her ITV show, which saw the popular breakfast program drastically reduced to just 30-minute episodes. The cuts have left her with “the longest time off TV” in her 40-year career and have stripped away the comfort of her familiar colleagues, with several staff members axed.

A source revealed to The Sun that while Lorraine enjoys spending more time with her one-year-old granddaughter Billie, daughter Rosie, and husband Steve Smith, the 62-year-old broadcaster is struggling with the sudden reduction in her schedule. “She’s used to being busy in front of the camera,” said the source. “Now, she has a lot more time on her hands, and for a workhorse like Lorraine, this has been a big adjustment.”
Lorraine has openly expressed her feelings of loss, especially without the daily support of her long-time team. “They were like a second family, and she has lost them in such a brutal and sudden way,” said the insider.
In the wake of the show’s BAFTA nomination, Lorraine paid tribute to her former team, especially ex-editor Victoria Kennedy. Lorraine’s Instagram bio now reflects a shift in her personal focus, with no direct mention of her ITV show, instead highlighting her role as a “Granny to Billie” and a “Dundee United supporter.”
Despite her sadness, Lorraine is reportedly keeping herself busy and maintaining her career ambitions. “She’s trying to lift her spirits but still has her eyes on keeping herself fulfilled,” a source shared.
Earlier reports revealed that significant cutbacks had affected Lorraine‘s Friday stand-in presenters, Ranvir Singh and Christine Lampard, who are no longer needed due to the reduction in the show’s scope. Additionally, Loose Women saw the cancellation of its live studio audience as ITV moved to a smaller studio in Covent Garden.
Backstage chaos has also affected other ITV shows, with Good Morning Britain‘s Susanna Reid losing her dedicated hairdresser due to resource cuts shared between ITV News and the morning program. “There just isn’t enough space backstage for everyone, and it’s causing a lot of tension,” one source added.
Lorraine has been an iconic fixture of British TV for decades, but these changes are certainly taking a toll. Could this be the beginning of a significant shift for Lorraine Kelly’s career? Only time will tell.
