Kate Garraway is finally “smiling again” after enduring two years of heartache following her husband Derek Draper’s tragic death. The two have known each other for 20 years, and their bond has deepened recently, with Kate spending time in Liam’s hometown of Saffron Walden, Essex. The pair were seen getting cozy at The Railway Arms pub, where Liam’s band, The Hooligans, performed. Witnesses reported plenty of laughter, singing, and dancing, with Kate looking visibly happy as she enjoyed the evening.

Sources reveal that Kate and Liam’s friendship has provided Kate with much-needed support. One friend mentioned to Daily Mail that “Liam makes her laugh,” and they have enjoyed each other’s company immensely. While Kate hasn’t confirmed whether the relationship will evolve into something more, the connection is clear. Kate, 58, has been through immense grief following the death of her husband in January 2024, after Derek suffered a cardiac arrest post-COVID complications. Kate, who still lives in the family home with their children Darcey, 20, and Billie, 16, has been focusing on rebuilding her life.

Liam, 56, has been a comforting presence for Kate during this challenging time. Known for his work as an award-winning journalist and his role as economics editor at GB News, Liam is separated from his partner, journalist Lucy Ward, and has three children of his own. Liam and Kate’s mutual friends are thrilled to see Kate smiling again, with many commenting on how happy they both look together.

Kate has also been vocal about her desire for romance once again, sharing in December 2024 that she would be open to finding love in the future. “I wouldn’t like to think I would never have romantic love again. That would be a sad way to go through life,” Kate said in a podcast with Jamie Laing. However, she teased, “Talk to your mates, find out if any of their dads are single. That’s your task, Jamie.”

Kate’s renewed spirit has brought joy to her loved ones, with one friend saying, “She’s been through so much. We just want her to be happy, and it’s lovely to see her smiling again.”
