I’m A Celebrity fans have lashed out at Seann Walsh after his dramatic performance during the Cut Throat Cliff trial in the latest episode of the South Africa spin-off. The comedian, who returned to the jungle after his stint in 2022, has been accused of “faking fears” and “playing up to the cameras” in order to get more airtime.
Seann, 40, was playing for Harry Redknapp’s Lion team, alongside Sir Mo Farah, against Beverley Callard and Sinitta, who represented Jimmy Bullard’s Rhino team. The trial, which saw the celebrities suspended 140 feet above the ground on a cliff edge, required them to answer general knowledge questions. Wrong answers resulted in the cutting of ropes, which could eventually leave them hanging!
While Seann made his fear of heights clear, many viewers were not convinced by his antics. One fan took to Reddit, writing: “I just cannot take to Seann. It feels like he’s being fake and playing up to the cameras. The way he acted in the trial was uncomfortable, especially when Gemma told him to shut up.”
Another user added: “He laughs at absolutely everything. It’s overbearing. I find it hard to take him seriously.”
Seann’s over-the-top reactions didn’t stop there. During the trial, Seann made a shocking blunder when he pressed his buzzer to answer a question about the 1982 Toto song, “Africa.” He quickly shouted “Spain!” leaving presenters Ant and Dec in fits of laughter.
Ant shouted, “What?!” as Seann defended his answer, saying, “I just thought it rhymed with rain!” His response left the viewers and fellow campmates laughing hysterically.
As Seann was instructed to cut his own rope, he couldn’t believe his mistake, saying, “I don’t believe this!” His error became a source of amusement for the rest of the team when he returned to camp. Beverley Callard recounted the hilarious moment, revealing how the entire group was left in stitches.
Despite the comedy, viewers’ frustrations mounted over Seann’s behavior during the trial, with many questioning whether his over-the-top reactions were genuine or part of a strategy for more screen time. Some felt it was less about the trial itself and more about Seann trying to be the center of attention.
The controversy has sparked heated discussions among fans, with some saying they can’t stand Seann’s antics, while others are simply amused by his personality.
I’m A Celebrity… South Africa continues to air on ITV1 and ITVX on Wednesday nights.
