Hoda Kotb made a heartfelt return to Today this week to fill in for Craig Melvin, reuniting with Savannah Guthrie after two years apart. This touching reunion comes at a deeply emotional time for Guthrie, who recently returned to the show after two months away, during which she dealt with the ongoing investigation into the abduction of her mother, Nancy Guthrie.![]()
Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE at the book launch for Sheinelle Jones’ Through Mom’s Eyes: Simple Wisdom from Mothers Who Raised Extraordinary Humans, held on April 15 at The Double Knot in New York City, Kotb shared her personal experience.
“The best part has been holding her hand,” Kotb revealed with a smile. “That’s my favorite part.”
With emotion in her voice, Kotb continued, “Just sitting next to her. That’s it. It’s been so beautiful, and I feel privileged to sit next to her for a little while.”
Though Guthrie has said she feels like Kotb is “helping me out,” Kotb humbly disagrees: “I don’t feel that way. I feel like I get to sit next to her and witness what strength really looks like. There’s nobody like her.”
The pair had previously shared an emotional moment when Kotb interviewed Guthrie in March on Today, where Guthrie opened up about the painful moments she first learned her mother was missing and the decision to fly to Arizona to be with her family during the search.
“To think that I brought this to her bedside, that it’s because of me?” Savannah said, speaking about speculation that her fame may have led to the abduction. “Can I just say, I’m so sorry, Mommy. I’m sorry to my sister, my brother, my kids, my nephew, and Tommy, my brother-in-law. I’m so sorry. If it is me, I’m so sorry.”
Savannah’s heartfelt words and strength continue to resonate with Hoda and viewers alike, as the two women continue to share a bond that exemplifies resilience, love, and unwavering support.
