A woman who appeared on Channel 4’s A Place In The Sun has revealed a shocking moment that left her so furious during filming, she nearly stormed off set. Karen Morrall, who joined her husband Mark in 2021 to search for their dream home in Spain, had a heated moment on the show that almost ended their appearance early.

The couple, with a £150,000 budget, were looking for the perfect property in Torrevieja, Costa Blanca. Despite finding the show’s team “polite and pleasant,” Karen admitted that they ultimately left without purchasing a property, describing much of the process as a “waste of time.”

Speaking on the Suddenly Single podcast, Karen revealed the frustrations of the experience. “We had no input into the places we were shown,” she said. “The crew had a set list of places they took us to. If one of those properties was perfect for us but they couldn’t get permission to film there, they wouldn’t show it to us.”
Karen also recounted a frustrating day when she and Mark were left waiting in the car for hours because the crew couldn’t gain entry to one of the properties. “I was furious and nearly walked off,” Karen admitted.
While A Place In The Sun may appear glamorous on TV, Karen pulled back the curtain on the less-than-ideal behind-the-scenes reality. She explained that filming involved “lots of takes” and frequent waiting around, taking away from the excitement of the property search.
This experience adds to the growing conversation about the reality behind home-hunting shows. Recently, a couple on A Place In The Sun revealed their own shock when they were told they had to deal with an unexpected mess in the garage of the home they bought. Despite these challenges, they were eventually able to resolve the issue with the help of a dedicated agent.
In another A Place In The Sun segment, presenter Ben Hillman returned to visit a couple who had appeared on the show years earlier and seen incredible renovations on their property, highlighting the surprising transformations that can happen after buying a home abroad.
The latest A Place In The Sun season continues to spark conversation about the highs and lows of property hunting in foreign countries.
