In an emotional message shared on social media, former NFL star Tim Tebow confirmed the heartbreaking news that his father, Bob Tebow, passed away at 78 after a long struggle with Parkinson’s disease.
Tebow took to Instagram Friday to reflect on the loss of his father, celebrating Bob’s life of faith and service. “Heaven ushered in a hero of the faith last night as my Dad was welcomed home!” Tim wrote, adding, “Many will say sorry for your loss, but the truth is he’s not lost, we know exactly where he is. He’s home. Forever!”
In a deeply personal moment, Tim shared a conversation with his father about his final thoughts on Heaven. When asked what he looked forward to most in Heaven, Bob responded simply, “Jesus.”
The former Heisman Trophy winner also expressed his gratitude for the man his father helped him become. “Praise God that his wait is over… He’s healed and whole now,” Tim said, reminding his followers that his father’s legacy of faith, love, and leadership will continue to inspire him forever.
A Lifetime of Service and Love
Bob Tebow’s unwavering commitment to his faith and service was evident throughout his life, even after his Parkinson’s diagnosis in 2016. Despite his declining health, Bob continued to serve in the Philippines, where he found his true calling, helping those in need.
His son Tim fondly recalled seeing his father, at peace, ministering to others in the Philippines. “When you see Dad in a third-world country with hurting people, you’re like, ‘that’s what he’s meant to do,’” Tebow shared in a 2016 interview.
Bob and his wife Pam made the Philippines their home in 1985 before returning to Jacksonville to raise their family. Tim described his father’s return to the Philippines after his diagnosis as a journey where he was able to serve in ways that gave him peace.
Family’s Heartfelt Tributes
Bob Tebow is survived by his wife Pam, five children, and eight grandchildren, all of whom are mourning his loss. Family tributes have flooded the comment section of Tim’s Instagram post, with many offering messages of sympathy and support.
In a touching tribute, Tim’s wife Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters shared her fond memories of Bob, describing him as a gentle, loving grandfather who adored his family. “I didn’t get to know the big, strong, tough, character-building man so many speak of,” Demi-Leigh wrote, “but I got to know the gentle grandpa… the one who loved ice cream, a good laugh, and never met a dog he didn’t like.”
Demi-Leigh also praised Bob for shaping Tim into “a protector, a leader, and above all, a man who loves God and loves people well.”
A Legacy That Lives On
Though Bob Tebow’s physical presence will be deeply missed, his legacy will continue to guide his family. Demi-Leigh reflected on the impact her father-in-law made, saying, “We will miss him, but we will continue to honor the example he set.”
Tim, now a successful broadcaster with ESPN after his NFL career, has frequently credited his father for shaping not only his faith but his career and life choices. Bob’s influence, Tim and Demi-Leigh emphasized, reached far beyond the Tebow family.
“Thank you for the extraordinary, bold and faithful life you lived and the significant impact you had on countless lives,” Demi-Leigh concluded, a sentiment shared by many who knew Bob’s unwavering faith and heart for others.
Tim Tebow’s tribute to his father is not only a reminder of a legacy of faith but also a celebration of the lasting impact one man can have on generations to come.
