In a startling development, Mark Adderley, husband of Loose Women star Nadia Sawalha, has been suspended from the Green Party following a series of antisemitic rants he posted on YouTube. The controversy centers around comments in which Adderley compared Israel to Nazi Germany and accused Mossad of orchestrating terror attacks against Jews. These videos were uploaded alongside his wife, where he regularly shared his views on Israel’s government.
Adderley, who was running for a Green Party seat in Crystal Palace & Upper Norwood in the Croydon elections, found himself at the center of an ongoing firestorm of criticism. In one video, he claimed that Israel was the greatest threat to global sovereignty, calling it a “cult” while referring to Netanyahu’s actions as comparable to Hitler’s expansionist agenda.
Concerns raised by antisemitism advocacy groups, political figures like MP Steve Reed, and other parties eventually led to his suspension on Friday. Adderley reacted sharply on social media, expressing how “disgusted” he was by the Green Party’s decision, claiming that he had “spent his entire life fighting racism in all its forms.”
Shocked by the suspension, Nadia Sawalha also spoke out, calling the Green Party’s decision “an utter disgrace,” though she stood by her continued support for the party. In a video posted to Instagram, she defended her husband, describing his suspension as part of his “punishment” for “bravely speaking up for Palestinians” in ways that few others dare to. Despite her support for her husband, she reaffirmed her membership with the Green Party, indicating her deep disapproval of the way Adderley was treated.
Sawahla also shared her belief that the Green Party had fallen short of its ideals, accusing them of following the same tactics of “psychodrama” used by Labour to discredit those who challenge mainstream political views.
The Green Party, for its part, reiterated that the views expressed by Adderley do not align with their values, and they stand firmly against antisemitism in all forms.
Adderley’s series of inflammatory videos, including one blaming Netanyahu for the Bondi Beach mass shooting, further fanned the flames of controversy. These videos have been taken down, but the fallout continues as the debate about freedom of speech versus responsibility heats up.
While his supporters claim that Adderley’s views were misrepresented, political leaders like Reed welcomed the Green Party’s swift action, calling it a crucial step in eradicating antisemitism within the party.
With tensions running high, the question remains: What will this mean for the future of the Green Party, and how will this controversy affect Sawalha’s public image moving forward?
